Next Election and TD Retention Rate

Day 663, 12:46 Published in Ireland Ireland by einberliner

When the next election comes, on September 25th, I've no intention of putting myself forward because I know I'll only be active for the first half of that term (my RL 'summer' holiday is taking place in October, so I'll be missing for a fortnight. I'll have access but at best I'll be a two clicker most days, and I wouldn't want to be knee deep in politics on my hols anyway) and so far my plan is to stand again next month for the term that runs to Nov 25th, though that means putting myself forward and posting my manifesto while still in the US (I fly back early the day after that election day. Yes I do think far ahead - what can I say? I'm a planner.)

While thinking about all this I noticed something. We elected 40 TDs on August 25th, it's now September 12th, almost two weeks until the next election round, and by my count we've lost at least five TDs one way or another in that time. Of the 35 that we do have I believe there are a reasonable number that don't get involved in the dail on the forums.

I know RL happens, also that we lost a couple in interesting circumstances there a week back, but to have lost 1 in 8 of our TDs in a fortnight seems very high to me. Is that usual?
