EPIC Primary Results

Day 1,443, 14:11 Published in Canada Canada by Nosyt

Greetings ladies and gents! I’ll be your host for this months EPIC primaries (It’s about time KQ got a break 😛). Here at EPIC we use an instant runoff voting system to determine who the party feels is most suited to be president. This basically means that members are asked to rank the candidates in order of preference, then the candidates with least amount of votes are slowly eliminated until a candidate with 50%+1 emerges victorious. Don’t quite get it? It becomes a little clearer as we move along~

Round 1

Here are the initial results from the vote. As you can see there’s a strong split between Sawc and AL supporters which ends up in a tie. However several of the other candidates received a considerable amount of support as well (even “for teh lulz” Beeman 😛 ) so the final outcome will be determined by where those votes are sent to.

Since the 50%+1 requirement is far from met we remove the candidate with the lowest amount of votes. In this case Araknos (I misspelled his name on the ballot >.>) Basically what these means is that if you voted Araknos as your first preference, that vote is eliminated and replaced with your second preference. This takes us to round two.

Round 2

So after redistributing Araknos’ votes we see that Addy gains the lead by a single vote, with the rest going to frank. Again, a majority has not been achieved, so we eliminate Beeman and move onto round 3.

Round 3

And now we see that Addy is put into the lead by a mere 3 votes. Frank139 picks up a good deal of support, but not enough to keep him in the game. With only 3 votes difference between Addy and Sawc, and 7 votes to be rearranged it’s still anybodies win. So we move franks preferences over and move onto the final round.

Round 4

And there you have it! By a single vote Addy Lawrence secures the majority of EPIC support. Don’t ever say your vote doesn’t count 😉

A big thanks to the members who participated, to Kronos who prepped me on how this works, and Cham who has agreed double counted the results to ensure I didn’t mess it up or attempt to hijack our primaries \o/

Please note that until Cham double checks the GDoc, these results could be subject to change. However I highly doubt that since it's actually quite a simple process and if I've managed to mess it up then boy do I fail. When the results are finalized I'll make the GDoc public (after blacking out the voters names of course~) I've simply published the results now because I'll be in class for the next 3 hours.

And now for some personal comments. A total of 35 members participated in the elections, which is 14 less than last month. Maybe we’ve lost some members, maybe it’s just a bad time of the month, or maybe people just don’t like my face! This is discouraging but never the less, 35 is a decent turnout when compared to most other parties.

As per user feedback, the majority was very positive and the EPIC Primary method appears to be very popular among the membership. I don’t see us going back to forum polls for quite some time. In the past, before we used a google form, write in candidates where permitted. The absence of this option was brought up. Personally I’ve got no problem with adding write in’s to the list of options and I intend to include it in next months primaries.

I started a discussion on the EPIC forums about improving the primaries - http://tinyurl.com/44xobaa

So there you have it. Good luck to all the candidates that made it on the ballot and make sure to place your vote on the 5th.
