CXXIX: Seal Team 6 - An Exercise in Indifference and Failure
Little Old Halfling
Drop it.
SEAL Team 6 is Dead
What do manners, friendship, understanding, and tradition all have in common? SEAL Team 6 lacks them.
Honestly, I never wanted to have to write and article like this and I shouldn't say the entirety of the outfit is lacking either, mind you. A few good people remain. Bob Dupuis, Animis, DisDuck. But when you have leadership so narrowly focused on quotas like a fascist system of automation then you lose something.
There was a time when SEALs were great. They were the reason I wanted to play the game. They were the most supportive people that I had ever met. Even when others asked me to join their outfit or to join up with the military, I declined. Because SEAL Team 6 was awesome.
When I came back, I wished to join up again with them. I wanted to get back in the game and play it right. Have some actual fun. I sent in my application to SEAL Team 6 and got rejected.
Outright.
I'd been an officer in my last life. I'd been in charge of the regiment and thought I'd done at least a decent job of making things fun. I was rejected because there was no room for me. No room for a member who had devoted time, energy, and effort to build and maintain a fun part of this game.
Admittedly, I was pretty sad. "But," I said to myself, "maybe it's for the best. They can't be pulling favors like that for everyone. I guess it's okay." Well, a few SEALs got wind of it and confronted SGT Rock to let me back in, and I'm grateful to them for that. I was happy to be a SEAL once again.
Only, I wasn't. I was assigned to training. For my third time. "Okay," I said, "standard procedure. I guess. It's off-putting, but I'll make it work." After getting half-assed answers from SGT Rock about a CO that I should contact, I found myself not caring.
My leadership didn't care about me. Why the hell should I reciprocate? I fought, I trained, I leveled up. I finally boosted my rank a few notches even. I asked to be QM. Apparently I didn't have enough experience and was not qualified.
It was at this time that SEALs just became another outfit for me. Nothing special. Sure, they hand out food to noobs. The government does that. Big freaking whoop. The heart of it was lost.
And then RL hit. For the last week and a half I've been dealing with some pretty serious stuff that has taken my attention away from the game. I've told Oblige I've stepped down from my job as Secretary of Media to not drag him behind.
What I didn't figure on this.
Last week SGT Rock contacted me about not fighting in his casually commandeering yet uncaring way. I told him I'd fight. I did. Then RL hit harder so I haven't been at my computer for the last 5 days.
So I was cut.
This, ladies and gentleman, is a man who is the reason for this game being a failure. A man who doesn't care about friends or fun, honor or tradition, or anything SEALs has previously stood for. He cares for profit. And he is the reason this game is dead.
SEAL Team 6 under SGT Rock is an uncaring establishment of mechanical slavery. You will not have fun. You will not be respected. You will be ousted if you miss your quotas. You will be banned for speaking your mind.
So to SGT Rock, congratulations. You've killed one of the few things I had put stock in on being good when I came back. Thank you for thoroughly proving me wrong with your blatant arrogance and lack of interest in any needs but the needs for your damage quotas. I hope you take enjoyment from it, because if you don't then I don't know how you find any of this fun.
To all my fellow SEALs, I'm sorry you have to deal with such a halfwit. I'm sorry that I basically went off on a tirade in the channel. I love you all. Think about who you have in charge more, maybe. Keep making it better, and keep being the awesome group of people I know you to be.
And finally to Easy Company, thanks for letting me join and being so quick to offer me a spot. It's heartening to know that there are still people who value other people in this game.
There's an easy way to fix this rift: either get SGT Rock in line, or get him out of line. Because this uncaring manner is not what this outfit has ever been about. SEALs, think hard.
In closing, if you want a military outfit that only cares about damage and how much work you do that will boot you if you don't meet your quotas, join SEALs. If you want something with an actual community that embraces and works hard to have a good time and enjoy what few good parts of this game remain, join Easy Company.
Or the military.
Or anything else.

I disagree in so many ways.
ST6 has always been a family to me... and that is why I stay!
Good for you, Jude. Maybe help make it that way again for other people, cus I thought I was at where you were.
Turns out I'm wrong.
sorry bro
hope your RL stuff gets better
That sucks to hear bro. Hope RL gets better. RL is always > eRep, unfortunate that some apparently cannot understand that.
How dare you allow your real world responsibilities to interfere with this mediocre time sink! You get in there and click that fight button! Lives are at stake!
(not really) Best of luck. RL Family > eRep 'family'
While I'm sorry you are having RL issues, we all are. You were not removed for your family issues, nor were you removed for not fighting.
In my 8 months as CO of SEAL Team 6 I'm only had to remove a handful of players. It was a solid play to remove you. I'm indifferent to how you feel about it.
So um yea um getting butt hurt over being kicked from a MU (which is something that is done on a daily basis to many people), you decided to post a rather long and moaning article and, attack the commander of said MU over something that 2 clicks away from getting back into.
Really SGTRock? I couldn't tell!
I remember when CO's would actually give a reason or care for kicking someone, when the leader of an MU would care about who he had and how he kept and treated them. When they weren't "indifferen't to how you feel about it."
Josh Frost, Speedcat, Bob, Jude, Animis, Disduck; I don't know how you would ever be worth anything without any of those wonderful people working with you. Guess you're indifferent to them as well. Pity, because they're the only worthwhile kinds of people left in SEALs, apart from Eyebrows.
He rocks.
I am very strict on discussing member issues publically. That saisyou have chosen the medium so I will respond accordingly. You have not visited our forum in near a month. This means you are not checking orders, have missee 3-4 roll calls and by your own words were not fighting. All with no comuncation as to why. Thos is the definition of inactivity for an mu member. I know of no unit where that is acceptable and if it is shame on them. I wish you the best handling your rl issues.
Takes two to tango. No comm from my end was due to never getting any info from you. I never got a PM from whoever was supposedly in charge of me, never was asked why I wasn't signing in, never was asked why I wasn't active.
I mean, clearly I exist, right? So there was probably a reason for that. But you have so many more people so willing to just be your automatons that you didn't really care if you lost me.
That's the real story here. Congrats on joining the indifference.
I was going to say you'd be welcome in EZC, then I saw you were already with us. 😃
ST6's loss is our gain.
I once got kicked out of ST6. It took me around a year to find out why.
well .......... i hate that i still didn't get a reply from you maxx johnson on the last thing we talked about (which was joining)
last month i applied to ST6 as well, and i didn't get any rejection and i didn't get accepted ........ your policy is to reply to who ever apply to the MU even if with rejection, right ?
am planning to apply again after i get out of my $hithole MU (yea AED) i hope you reply this time 🙂
u mad bro?
unoit bro! XD
I think it's pretty clear inactivity is not the path to your goal. The forum is always there, no person needs an invitation, it's on the person to stop in and look at the orders and to check the platoon section. Every platoon has a forum section if you have issues that's where you take them. Yes, RL overrides the game, but in the game as in RL sometimes you have to make an effort to reach your goals. I'm also sorry you have RL issues, I hope everything works out for the best.
Thanks Smith. I agree about the forum part, but I seem to remember doing order PM's pretty regularly as well. That was before you could even do Mass PMs, mind you. So what does it say when that tool isn't used properly to bring members up to date on current orders?
My point: is it really that difficult to show emotion or give a care?
Do you guys even play baseball anymore?
🙁 /me has a sad on
/me debates sharing her story
what is your story, fionia
I don't have anything nice to say about this article, but I know I wouldn't be playing this awful game if it wasn't for ST6.
Hey Athanaric: I think it is fair to say that that this is not the place to handle grievances. Relationships are two way streets. You have many friends throughout the game and I would like to think that is because you know how handle situations better than this. Regardless of whatever MU serves you best in the end, this is not helping anyone. This is not good for you in the long run unless the body snatchers took that decent halfing and left and angry bitter halfing in your place. In that case; we want our fun halfing back!
May I make a suggestion that you back this article out of the press entirely and lets get you and the St6 leaders and your friends into an IRC discussion to sort things out. I realize that you have referred to the old ways of ST6 a few times, believe me, when I returned I noticed things were different also, but so is the game. You of all people already know that we must roll with the waves.
In the end, ST6 may not be a good choice for youright now. Perhaps a more easy going flexible MU is a better choice, but leaving on these terms is never good, especially since you are well liked and I have always known you to be fun and upbeat. PM me if you want.
I'm glad something woke my friend Colin up 'WAVING IN COLINS DIRECTION' HI!!!!
Heh Ath dont be to worried bout it, Rock has thrown away some of the oldest players around Join EZCo or SF 😁 both are pretty damn amazing 😃
Athan, remember what you told me, it's been my guiding force since I almost quit (the second time).
RL > eRep
Do whatever you find that is fun for you.
I could get a few more measly bucks from OMS but it ain't worth it to me. Sure I want activity on our forum and IRC, but not for roll calls or giving orders. Guess that's the advantage of being small, I know what's going on in a lot of the guys RL. The only "rules" I have is that: 1) a member must answer my PM's within a reasonable period of time; 2) Members must live up to our code of conduct. The must be honest, trustworthy and dependable.
Currently I've let go a few members, but I do not enjoy that. When I did, it was because they hadn't fought for 30 days and failed to answer at least 2 PM's. After kicking them a PM was sent explaining why and asking them to rejoin if they ever got back in the game.
All I can say is different strokes for different folks.
PS: If my guys want supplies they work in a commune. If they don't like the color of my tanks they can work elsewhere and buy there own. No big deal to me. As a matter of fact, the goal of our MU is to build self sufficient fighters that help me help n00bs get started off right. When they've got there q5's and several RM's I don't want 'em taking up space in the communes.
damn... inb4grammarnazis
there = their
I show emotion and am aware of what is going on with many of our SEALs. That said no offense but I had just assumed you quit the game again. You put no effort into logging in and being active from an mu standpoint. People go inactive it happens every day in every unit. Id like to check up and pm every member when it happens but it is not feasible. As for orders via pm. The game is different than it was orders can change 5-10x per day. PMing 100+ people with every change is no going to happen anywhere.
Also at Blaster I will het your pm this afternoon when Im home from work and not dealing with atupid shit.
I've got ninety-nine problems but an "MU" ain't one.
I don't know the details but from reading the article, it sounds like you may have jumped the gun a little bit, Athanaric and the booting was perhaps due to mis-communication or misunderstanding. It is true that units change but it's because they have to because this game changes. Back in the day of v1 where battles ran for 24 hours, it was much easier to relay orders via PM. IRC was definitely not a requirement as orders can just be shot down the Chain of Command. These days, it's a lot more work to coordinate to remain effective, I don't think it is because people don't care but it's because if we did it the old way, you would have no Commanding Officers as people would either burn out or just not want to be in a position of leadership to begin with.
I think it would've been best if you talked to your CO, your friends, (or your CO's CO if there is no communication from your CO). Airing stuff out in public is never the best solution and should be the last resort type of deal.
>You have not visited our forum in near a month. This means you are not checking orders, have missee 3-4 roll calls
Oh god, is it 2009 again or have the Seals just not evolved? What's with having a forum?
Also Ath why aren't you in Top Gun
@Emerick we fight battles that cannot be set using the mu. Its the best way to communicate deployments such as those.
Emerick, a good question. Mainly due to my interest in EZC. I always know Top Gun's gonna be there for me. ~❤
Emerick speaks... bullshit gets deep
Welcome to EZC~
I'm not involved; I'm in a different Military Org, in which communication has been blissfully easy, and, I think, rewarding for all concerned.
Not to be a role-player, but I used to be in the RL US Military, and I take that experience with me into the game.
If a soldier sees a problem coming up, they should inform their command as soon as possible. But sometimes, problems are not foreseeable (eg, your car breaks down, your cell phone won't work, and the best you can do is show up as soon as possible and try to explain. Your command may forgive you, they may not).
But, it's a two-way street. If a soldier suddenly goes missing, a good CO or XO will do everything possible to try to contact the soldier, friends and family of the soldier, etc., if nothing else to make sure the soldier is not dead in a ditch somewhere.
It's an implicit bargain-- you earn respect through faithful service, and your command looks out for you to make sure you're okay.
I don't know the details of the situation, and I've never been involved with ST6, but this seems like a shame. A lose-lose situation for all concerned.
I hate that eRep timed put my response - grrr.
Sorry t hear Athanaric's tale of woe. I guess that I never left ST6, probably wouldn't qualify to rejoin. I hope that there will be accommodations for us dinosaurs, as well as the newer players that want more action
SEAL Forever 😛
Marines have a no-drama policy. More fun to stomp Serbs than our own guys. There are lots of MU choices, ST6 is a great one with a tremendous history and their stats speak volumes about their effectiveness. You'll find the right MU home!
P.S. it's also more fun to flame Serbs in the press than our own guys as well...
and thats why im in anonymous, where nobody gives a shit how many quotas you make and we still do pretty damn well.
