A few thoughts for eSingapore.
Flaco Jimenez
First I would like to wish everyone a Happy Singapore Day.
I would also congratulate Wooshie as our newly elected President.
I have several thoughts about our future as a free and independent nation.
A Q5 defense system. I propose the solicitation of donations to fund this. We as a small nation need the ability to defend ourselves. It has been proposed before but that is as far as it went. I am more than willing to contribute for this purpose and challenge other Singaporeans to do the same.
Diplomacy is our first line of defense. I am curious as to what the new administration has planned for expanding diplomatic relations with other countries. Of course the Swiss are our greatest allies but we should be able to work well with other countries as well.
Relating to mergers. I think Malaysia and Singapore would make a great combination. Our SGD is strong and our population active. If diplomats could reach an equitable solution it might be the answer to our worker shortages.
1 MYR = 0.01 GOLD
1 SGD = 0.02 GOLD
The math is simple the details would be more difficult. How would we compensate for MYR savings? How would each society integrate into the other? I think the effort would be well worth the time. The payoff would be a better way of life for everyone concerned.
Just a few thoughts and I welcome your additions to the discussion.
Majulah Singapura!

Q5 DS is nice and all, but who is that going to stop? Currently there are no threats to Singapore and even if there were, the only threat would come from the south and the region's population isn't big enough to make a DS feasible. It will just be a giant waste of money.
Its an investment we need to look at. A defense system, no matter how small the population, is WELL worth the money it costs to put it up. It would help defend against any threat that happens to target this small but patriotic nation.
AND it's permanent. I'd voiced quite the same misgivings as Snayke in the forums previously, but to be honest, if we've the gold, there's really no major downside to having a DS handy if we ever need one.
How much is the cheapest one are we able to find?
I don't know if it was ever persued more than general discussion.
Malaysia is Singapore's ally last time I checked. And if Indonesia wanted Singapore, Q5 defense system or not, they would get Singapore.
^
And if Indonesia got Singapore, we really wouldn't have as much reason to work as hard to maintain our sovereignty as we do now. That doesn't stop us from trying ^-^;
Basing actions on their hypothetical hopelessness doesn't constitute enough of an argument; indeed, there are psychological advantages to be drawn from this as well: if nothing else, a Defense System will be the physical manifestation of the culmination of our efforts; if eSingapore is to be the only region we have, there's no reason not to make it good.
