[UK-Reform] 6 years of UK Reform

Day 2,219, 20:43 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Thomas765

This week, the UKRP is celebrating their sixth bornday (or six years since establishment), with the general consensus year after year that we were formed "sometime around Christmas 2007". Despite being the age that we are, we are certainly a very different party with very different members than when we were at our formation and likewise through the years. So this article will be focused on our history, while party leadership will be doing some other things.

We've gone from being hostile towards The Unity Party to periods of friendship and neutrality, especially at times of national crisis or common interest. The rivalry between the two parties were primarily evident in the congress elections - which were previously decided by a first past the post system in regional elections - with congressional favour swinging between one party or the other regularly and both vying for the most congress seats by daychange using strategic voting. However, at least once a year the rivalry was capable of reaching boiling point - in 2010, this was the House of Lords being removed and in 2011, the Hindgate (SH multi scandal) - and occasionally both parties supported the same candidate for CP.

However, time changes things and that is no different to now. As a party, we were once focused on winning, beating TUP and, primarily, politics. But much like other parties, such as fellow old party, PCP, we've become focused on knitting together our own little community due to our size. While continuing to occasionally punch above our weight, such as having the most ministers in government some months, we are still here as a party with the same name but different ideals, views, members and sense of purpose.

Brief History - Success and failure

Our most successful period occurred after a stint of party unity, where we all worked together for each other's successes and the country's success and this has been the case since then. 2011 was our most successful year, as you can see from the statistics below. 7 out of 11 months (we didn't have a congress election in December) featured UKRP at the top of the congress table after Daniel Thorrold (now Lionbeard) and Michael Crookes attempted to reform the party. The first major success of the year was Jhorlin's election as country president. The next was March, when the UKRP took hold of the congress top spot that remained with us until the Croatian PTO attempt in May, where the general sentiment was that everyone was ripped off with ATO proceedings (which failed) except TUP. Despite this, success continued through the summer with Lionbeard being elected as CP and the party obtaining it's biggest majority in congress since foundation, with 50% of all congressmen belonging to the UKRP.

Back in the day

The downfall of the UKRP as a competing major party power occurred in Autumn 2011 when from the membership of the UKRP, the UKPP was founded. Matt Scazza and Baroness Margaret Thatcher formed a splinter group that would become the United Kingdom Progression Party. This was a result of Appleby winning the PP election that month and a power struggle forming. In addition, the hostile campaign against TUP's CP, Kevy, at the time, led by Dishmcds, proved to be a disaster as, alongside Thatcher (Arrlo), several prominent members of the party at the time decided to leave. Notably this included Top Hat Harry, Charlie Fabray and Arthur Wellesley (who later returned). The party rapidly declined, losing against Temujin94 in what was a very close CP election. This later forced Dishmcds to post an article saying that the party is dead, despite it being able to cling on for the two years thereafter.

The party began to fall drastically, into the depths of near death, until Sir Nick Griffin attempted to PTO the party in late 2012. A large swath of members returned and came to the UK to help fight it off. Since then we've been lingering around 60 to 100 members and have been our most successful this year than has been the case since 2011.
