De laatste tijd krijg ik veel vragen over de positie van Nederland binnen GEA en EDEN. Om de meeste vragen direct en zo transparant mogelijk te beantwoorden, dit artikel.

Afgelopen weken is er hard gewerkt aan de positie van Nederland binnen EDEN. Tijdens de EDEN Summit van 9 mei is toen ook besloten om tijdens deze periode te stemmen over of we volwaardig lid van EDEN kunnen worden.

Dit is na een paar keer uitstel ook gebeurd en wat die procedure betreft, zullen we zeer binnenkort een uitnodiging ontvangen!

Maar....
Ook is EDEN deze maand bezig met het opstellen van een nieuwe Verdragstekst. Tijdens deze procedure is besloten, geen nieuwe landen volwaardig lid te maken, omdat dit dat proces weer moeilijker zal maken. Dat dit proces niet zo soepel loopt als verwacht, is inmiddels wel duidelijk.



Dus we zitten nog even in de wachtruimte, tot de huidige volwaardige leden klaar zijn met het afsluiten van het nieuwe verdrag.

Ik ben er van overtuigd, als de komende regering het beleid doorzet, dat we binnenkort volwaardig lid van EDEN zullen zijn!

I get a lot of questions about the position of the Netherlands within GEA and EDEN. To answer most of the questions directly and as transparent as possible, I write this article.

Last weeks, we worked hard to improve the position of the Netherlands withing EDEN. At the EDEN Summit on the 9th of May, it was decided they would vote on our Full Membership, within this month.

After one or two delays, they did and so based on that, we will receive and invite to be Full Member very soon!

But....
EDEN is also working on a new Treaty text, this month. In this procedure, they decided not to allow new full members in, as it would make the process of rewriting the Treaty more difficult. This process is not working out as planned, that's clear now.



So, we are still in the waiting room for a while, until the Full Members are done, rewriting the Treaty.

I am convinced, if the next Government will continue with the current policy, we will be Full Member soon!
