[BS] AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH
Dio Vigon
sorry for poor english
I've been playing eRepublik for 6 years now. I wasn't here during the beta, but I played the V1 for a while, the Rising and I was here while they kept releasing new features to destroy the eRepublik experience step by step. Let's recall some terrible updates we had through all these years and what we have now (and they have the guts to call a strategy game)?
THEY KILLED THE ECONOMY WITH THE…
...monetary market 10 gold limit
...extinction of the work skill
...extinction of professions
...extinction of the old resources
...extinction of Organizations (which killed community companies)
...extinction of national currencies
…BOT
…companie's promotions
(the economic module's death will celebrate prom in a few years)
Let's face it, there is no economy on eRepublik for a while. When we had it, you could create a Q1 food company, hire some workers, start profiting and, if you were good, be a entrepreneur. Now you have only one option to be rich ingame: spend your real money, coz buying a 10 gold Q1 food company means you'll spend 4000 currencies, produce 200 breads daily with full bonuses, selling it for for 20 currencies on the market, while you waste 12 currencies (if you work as manager) or waste 82 currencies if you employ someone to work for you. Conclusion: you'll recover the investment in one year and a half or you'll lose a lot of money daily.
What happened to everything else is also extremely bizarre. They set the 10 gold limit for money transactions, which made the gold launch from 40 cc to more than 2000 cc in 2011. A inflation they hold only using a BOT to buy currency from the monetary market and products from the local markets, which is a complete joke as well, considering all markets use the same currency to sell the same products, which makes impossible for a country to work its taxes and make your market interesting for others.
Seriously, only remembering how good the economic module was and comparing it to what we have now makes me sick. Let's skip this subject.
THEY KILLED THE POLITICAL MODULE WITH THE…
…congress list
…Dictatorship
(guess that's enough, right?)
Until august, 2012, congress elections were region based, which means a candidate had to run for congress as a region candidate and would receive only the votes from that region. It was a good think, cause the voters knew who they were getting elected! Since september 2012 eRepublik started to use the congress list. Each party decides their favorite members to be in the list and they get elected from top to bottom. If the party elects 10 members, the numbers 1 to 10 on the list are in. Which makes easy to bad party leaders to turn hateful players into "population representatives".
Also, the guarantee of election through congress list made parties all around the world to race for a higher amount of members (and also a higher amount of fakes).
It was bad already, but the political module wasn't profiting, right? Nobody used to spend money on it. Actually, eRepublik used to GIVE money for congress and presidential elected players. So they invented a new money eater: Dictatorship. A tool for people willing to spend tons of money to be the leader/owner of a country, ignore everyone's opinions and that, as consequence, only destroyed even more the game for the more social-oriented players that now have nothing to do to make the difference.
The message is clear: buy our packs, waste your money or you have no use here.
THEY KILLED THE MILITARY MODULE WITH THE
...Natural Enemy proposals
...Automatic activation of MPPs
...Unlimited energy recovery (ENERGY BAR$)
…Combat Orders
…Infantry Kit
...Epic Battles
..."waste all your money for nothing " events
(and many more useless updates)
Yes, Natural Enemy proposals might look like a good thing, right? But is actually the devil. Countries used to THINK before attack, used to PREPARE the community, used to have a relevant reason to fight, because it was expensive. However, after natural enemies's proposals were implemented, everyone attacks everyone every time!
There's always 30, 40, 50 battles opened, which no one gives a damn for at least 90%. Campaigns became meaningless, battles became usual, winning became irrelevant. There's no WORLD WAR anymore, only "campaigns of the day", which whoever's lose it, will open a resistance war as soon as possible and the fight goes back and forth so frequently that nobody cares and nobody remember's the reason they're fighting.
STRATEGY IS DEAD! It died with the natural enemies proposal, it died with the automatic activation of MPPs (yes, the use to be real PROTECTION pacts, useful when you had to PROTECT your land), it died with the unlimited energy recovery that makes single players become powerful than whole countries and armies, it died with the Combat Orders that make people only fight for money and ignore country goals and community objectives, it died with waste your money Packs and specially with the Infantry Kit that makes any one that joins the game today absolutely USELESS unless they buy tons of energy bars or (which is more common) buy an older and stronger account. The divisions were created to make players dispute battles against players with the same game age, but some players will stay forever in the same division, getting Battle Hunter Medals with few hits against younger players.
Sorry to tell you this guys (which everybody already knows): the game is dying from greediness. As Tolkien wisely said about the dwarfs of the Mines of Moria, "they delved too greedily and too deep" and in the end of that hole lies the extinction of the whole game. The worst part is: they pretend everything is fine and player's opinions seems to be worthless.
We are no longer citizens of a New World. We are only survivors hoping that our world, our "new" world recovers from its self-destruction in time.
ps: this article will probably be deleted. The truth is not welcome here.

Agree.
Totally disagree, but for the "end of the world" callers, the best thing to do is "let it be".
How can u disagree? Show ur point
I could begin a enormous exposition, but I'm just tired, hence I resume it in some sentences:
More important than admins updates, it is the community use of those updates. All of you are free to endlessly complain about it, the truth is the community is major responsible for the things, good or bad, happening here.
demonaire u r a little right but little. Game was played in Turkey 60k active citizen. Now the world have 80k active people. Turkey have 3k.
its show game is diying and game became more and more boiring in time and its not comminity false.
really an interesting article!
Só vdds, Vigão
esqueceu da unica mudança que realmente estragou a economia: o work as manager, o resto nem é tão problemático e a maioria foi o que os adm tiraram de lição da Rising...
There have been some wrong turns along the way 🙂

Being eBorn 2 days after you, we've had pretty much the same experience in here Vigon. I, of course, agree with you.
I just disagree with the Combat Orders thing. They're actually the only good thing implemented in the past years. People/countries used to buy damage on IRC before, and only major/known players/MU were contacted. Now, everyone can get their share if a country is willing to pay.
Besides that, I'd like to add two other crucial things that are absolute killing this game:
1 - Cheaper resistance wars. As you said, nowadays there are dozens of battles active all the time. Resistance wars were a different way to battle - without MPP, requiring countries to mobilize their national mobile forces. They had a premium prize but a strategical meaning as well. Now, who cares? It's just 1k CC. I don't even care if my country is prepared to fight or not. Should it fail, I can do it again and again.
2 - Work as manager. This is a complete disaster - in practice, every one can has surplus production, meaning the demand will be almost 0.
3 - Giving so many medals each battle. Older BH's are the current CH's. People just fight to get one BH in a round and thats it, off we go.

Putting a limit and high costs in war will make conquesting and manteining territories an entertaining challenge once again. Fixing the economy will make each territory having much more value than now (other than "wiping X country for Y days). It's not rocket science, for fucking sake.
Excellent points
Disagree with point 2, want to add point 4 - not fair to share taxes with the occupant - the worst update from my point of view. If you lose the territory then it's double effort to gain it back.
Well, about CO, all of us know that it is neccesary for the actual system, but on the other way is a problem to the game.
One guy sells lots of IK to different playeres, gets cc, and then put that CC in COs, which are took by the people who bought the IKs, and will use that CC to buy the next one xD
But that means that countries with 2-3 great visa-players have a real advantage respect the otheres.
Moreover, countries which had money/bonus in the beginning of the CO sistem, could used it from the beginning against the others.
Colin!, we all love you!
This could be solved by ending with these kits (the IK in special, but tbf we could live without all of them). Also, limiting the daily energy recover would also help to mitigate this problem (in top of solving a much larger one, the one-man-visa-army).
Very eloquent. And true.
+1
100% True!
If people care they should stop all wars and try and start again !!
This.
Btw, I don't think I played this game when 'professions' were a thing, so I'm not up to speed with how they operated, but they look interesting. I'm assuming they had some functional value ingame?
You are e-older then him...
He means working in raw, construction or production (or what ever this was called). Three professions or rather different work skills.
Romper, what do you personally think? Can you make an article what keeps you in this game for so long? (Maybe it exists already?)
I am too stubborn to quit.
Am I the only one who still enjoys this game and can adjust myself to any changes? BTW, I'm 95% producer and 5% warrior.
I have no issues with changes. Their game, their problem. If you don't like it, leave. I just don't have time to play like I would like to so the logical thing would be to quit and play something that really takes only 5 mins/day xD
self-production is the most stupid thing ever!!!
Oj!
I've been here since 2009 and yup, they killed it. Firstly with some mistakes made trying to make this better(I still believe) but then everything went down fast and they just didn't wanna do anything about that.
Voted!
I really think experienced-based division allocation is by far the biggest problem with the game...
And Infantry Kit made it even worst
Div 4 is probably the best place to play now 🙂

Don't get mad, get even. Stop feeding the vampire.
Combat Orders are cool but should be only be able to be used by COUNTRIES, not by Military Units. Whats the point of a Military Unit to hire mercenaries? They should either be the mercenaries or the national forces and they should be payed by a goverment, not by another military unit.
On everything else i completely agree.
MUs in this game are like multinational corporations in RL. These entities should exist, defend their countries with CO and have ability to create entrepreneurial and collective atmosphere in the game.
Nope, there should exist Corporations, not MUs acting like Corporations. Military Units should in fact be quite restricted... there should be really few of them since countries should be more relevant.
MUs are like Boards of corporations, CEOs of the big game.
Don't get mad, get even. Stop feeding the vampire
So true...
The only remaining thing is press the red button, how fun!

The thing I can't understand is that why don't admins understand that with more hopeful and happy citizens, with more newcomers, their income will also increase
Isn't it what they want? More income, money, damn papers

Excellent and genuine article, even not being here for so long, to see what has changed and changed for the worse makes me wonder whether the end is not near.

ik must be killed
