[Brexit] A Response
10 Downing Street
It appears that this could be the most controversial decision I've made. Puts the old Latvian NE in the shade, that's for sure. So, some responses.
"This is about Latvia/being wiped/a tantrum"
No. I was always going to put this to Congress. Anyone who had taken the time to get to know me and my feelings on the matter would have realised this. Indeed, had we not been in such a situation, I would have done so far earlier in my term. If the UK wanted another boring term, they should have voted for AMD, who certainly wouldn't have done anything controversial. As it is, I proposed leaving Orion after it became clear that we had some form of agreement with both the USA and Ireland (and to a lesser extent Colombia). It has been clear for some time, at least to me, that we have been the black sheep of the Orion "family," and never really fit there. That is not to say that there is nothing in common, but when you consider that only a month ago we had MPPs with none of our fellow alliance members, it made me question further why we were there in the first place.
"This is about "changing sides""
No. If anyone has noticed the "Campaigns of the Day" which I have been setting, on the occasions when I could not set one for the UK it was for our allies outside Orion - Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Bulgaria. This is simply because all other members of Orion were embroiled in training wars, including one war between two of the members.
"This means that we suddenly dislike all the members of the alliance"
Far from it. As I have already stated in the article, my view was that Orion offered nothing that MPPs could not. The events leading up to the UK joining Orion saw us fighting for a traditional enemy, France, who have turned into one of our most staunch allies since.
"Don't you realise UK is going to be hated for this?"
Come on, what's new? Since BigAnt decided to "liberate" us from Wayne's "illegal" dictatorship, we've been on a downward spiral. An MTO, a constitutional dictatorship ruled by reams of meta legislation which hardly anyone could be bothered to read, and some truly terrible governments (including two impeachments, one of which gave the shiny buttons to "King" William, aka Ajay) have led to the UK being in a terrible situation. Regardless of whose "side" we are on, we will always be a whipping boy thanks to our unique set of borders which means no matter what we do, we are still liable to be under attack from some direction at some time or other. If anyone had noticed, I have not gone crawling around for allies to "fight hard" to free us. I have chosen a diplomatic route which seems to be paying dividends.
"You're setting Pacifica against Asteria/Orion."
No, seriously, we're not. Should Brexit happen, I really can't see much changing unless Pacifica and Asteria force them to change.
"You're setting up a move to Pacifica."
To be brutally honest, I'm not looking for any new alliance at the moment. I would like to remain "neutral" on our own terms, rather than have it dictated by an alliance, for a change. Set up a friendly TW. Sign a couple of new MPPs, as well as reinforce old ties. Fight for our allies where we can, and for ourselves for the kicks.
"You're burning all your bridges."
No, not really. Actually trying to build new ones. The only ones who will burn bridges are those naysayers and conspiracy theorists who believe I have done a "terrible thing" and "betrayed everyone". Nothing could be further from the truth. Aside from a couple of personal individual disagreements, I am more than happy with our allies.
"You've coerced/bribed/whatever Congress into doing your bidding."
Oh, please, you really don't know me if you think I'd stoop that low. Sure, I don't take politics quite so seriously as some, and don't see it all as a Matter of Life and Death, but I've laid down what I believe in my article and left it to Congress to make what I would hope to be an informed decision. I've made my feelings regarding our position in Orion perfectly clear in the past. We never really belonged and should have remained "neutral".
"I've wasted my packs/EBs/CC/hard earned money"
While I appreciate the efforts and thank you for fighting, at no time did I call for international assistance. I was confident that my Government could negotiate deals, however long it took, and that has proven fruitful, even though I haven't yet got 100% of what I wanted.

This is much more diplomatic then my response article. Once again, pauly proves good leadership by going with his version...
It lacks position statement on Banana : (((
Banana is love, banana is life 😉
i didn't mean personal relationship w/ the fruit : (
(already have the sekstapes)
but okay
😘
I think all is said and done and congress is still voting.
There will not change much unless people think they need to punish UK for making decisions others were thinking about too but didn't act upon because they are less impulsive.
Also one last time: Attacking Latvia and the wipe that followed has NOTHING to do with the decision made now. UK attacked Latvia without approval from anyone other than the Country they were meant to help out. Orion was ever to blame, Asteria was never meant to jump in for aid. Asteria overreacted but we dealt with it diplomatically in the end like Pauly said.
We will still be fighting for our friends if they ask although our input on the ground isn't much we can help out a little in aviation. Like France have done, this is the way to go for UK only we have a smaller players base.
One last announcement: I of course resigned my post of Orion SG. It is not in the charter that I have to do that but it only seems logical. I will write a statement tomorrow when the vote has passed.
Pacifica overreacted of course not Asteria...been a long day...
I wouldn't say they overreacted, tbh it was refreshing to see an alliance take such action regarding a threat. Heavy handed for sure, but I would say an overreaction.
where did Wayne go? You sure we didn't exchange accounts?
Attacking with 3 was ridiculously dramatically overpowering.
I believe it wasn't really about Latvia. They just wanted to have war and found a reason.
An Alliance led by eUSA that didnt use a sledghammer to hit a little nail would be more newsworthy. The plesant surprise is that they have been quite amicable during it all.
The only reason we haven't been attacked by some member of Pacifica prior to the eLV situation was that Pacifica don't want to jeopardise peace with Asteria by attacking an Orion member without cause. There's so few nations that aren't part of the Asteria/Orion/Pacifica bloc that those countries are constantly looking for someone "neutral" to invade just so they have someone to fight. Any thoughts on how we avoid constant invasion without the deterrent that it might bring about the Pacifica - Asteria war that those alliances are so desperate to avoid?
As shown, it's a very hollow deterrent. One, that no one takes very seriously. Alliances are only a deterrent if they act upon threats. The only people scared off will be minor countries. Your irelands or your backwater no name country via AS. Our historical wipers have been Canada and France. Two countries we now consider good and valuable friends.
They don't seem to desperate to avoid to me, they appear to be pretty much the same bloc. Numerous countries share MPP's.
Unless someone wants a bucket load of fish, we don't really offer anything to other countries, it's only really out of spite that we would be consta-permawiped. The whole 'we will be wiped' scare tactic is a moot point considering regardless of alliance, even during TWO days we have been wiped.
If you want to avoid invasions, you should sign MPPs with Pacifica countries. The better relations you have with powerful countries like Poland, the less likely you will be invaded from that side. Also you can't make mistakes like the NE against Latvia was. However as far as I understand UK's priority is not to avoid invasions, but to play independently. Independence and security are mutually exclusive things now, in my opinion.
We are free to sign Pacifica MPP's now, others in orion and indeed Asteria have MPP's with em.
In the grand scheme of things I wouldn't be overly concerned about Pacifica. Papa Poland will always be Papa Poland to us here in the eUK. I would like to think that the Polish look back on our long history together with fondness and not want us permawiped for no good reason. USA are USA, they'll do as they please. Every now and again I'd imagine we'd be in their sights for a bit of rough and tumble. I think every country with powerful neighbours will expect that. The Swedes are pretty cool, we had a great working relationship with them. The Fins don't like us I feel much and Russia have often blown hot and cold. As for Colombia I don't really know.
I totally agree with the independence and security are mutually exclusive comment.
And you are completely right, Asteria and Pacifica is the same bloc - it's now called Pasterifica. I admire how UK is playing the game, but most countries strive only for security. This is now turning Asteria, Pacifica, BG/MKD, Orion - everything except anti-Asteria - into one alliance in practice. UK and Indo was attacked because they have less relations, their position is less secure within this bloc, that's all.
We were attacked because we NE'd Latvia, had we not done so, Pacifica wouldn't have gangbanged us. I imagine more for the fact that we barely register on anyones radar unless we scream and shout then for 'peace between Pacifica and Asteria'. There was a reason why we did nothing but ask a few questions just in case it turned very nasty. We are not looking to ignite the world, even if we were relevant enough to do so.
aimeisan, csak Magyar MPP, semmi más nem érdekel!!!
It is not secret that one part of UK and France want to leave Orion for a while now. France wants in Asteria and UK for eGod knows why and what ere they trying to accomplish.
Uk's firepower is 0,63% and Orion's around 4%. What ever your expectations in this game are they are way too high 😃
You won't have more fun playing any way different no matter what you do.
The world of alliances in which we are accustomed is long past. Good luck finding alliance that is not really just "a social club" and/or "playing neutrality"😃
I always say what I mean, sorry.
🤖
We have a 3 stage plan to AS Hungary...
That could be fun 😃
And here was me saving that AS for Singapore just for you, PN 😉
PAULY, DON'T TELL THEM ABOUT THE SECRET PLAN!!!
Other than acting as a so called deterrent (which is actually Asteria not orion) what does Orion offer?
I could understand the wooharr about France leaving, big part of Orions firepower gone, but eUK leaving is such an issue for you? A country that offers nothing but earache and facepalms...
The turth is Orion as a functioning alliance has long died. Regardless of whether France join Asteria and we wander in the wildnerness, the thing you call Orion is an alliance in name only. This isn't to say that we are turning our back on our friends in Orion, after all our crowning moment of working with Orion is freeing France from the Argies, something we did without being a member. The ball is in your court, how you act as an alliance will impact our future relations. All eUK is wanting to do is take off the Orion badge. Our damage and help will only ever be a PM away. I understand emotions are high at the moment and crazy talk is making it's rounds, but hopefully in a couple of days when all is chill again, you will realise that eUK leaving isn't such a major change.
I am sorry it is misunderstanding. France or UK it does not matter to me, who ever wants to leave alliance(Orion or any other) it should leave. No one can't/should not force anyone to join or to stay in the certain alliance. That is would be bad that country and alliance. I am not sad if any members leave alliance. You joined cuz you wanted and you are leaving cuz you wanted. Good enough for me.
Let's say Orion is not functioning alliance. Name me one functioning alliance in this game in the last few years except Asteria? 😃
And yeah, I am not one of those who cares about Orion firepower and I never was. Firepower is not the most important thing in this game.
I was against joining Orion because of two countries, eCanada and eFrance. My two favourite countries in Orion now are Canada and France.
I agree that all alliances are irrelevant nowadays, most players are apathetic and of course that makes leadership roles more difficult. That to me is all the more reason for us to disband. Apathy breeds apathy, sometimes a kick up the arse is needed.
The only alliance I can see us joining if we do leave Orion is Banana, I feel we have unfinshed business there... 😃
@Wayne, "...most players are apathetic ...".
What!? *brumpfff* *cough* Someone say something?
lol
@chopp, I care about firepower. pew pew
Canada and France have been the true revelations of our time in Orion. To think it was only a couple of years ago we were permanently at each other's throats... 😉
And chopp, I'd think that in what has become more and more a collaborative war game (thanks to packs being focused far more on war than anything else), firepower might just be a little bit of a factor 😉
Fair enough Wayne 😃
Mad Pauly, firepower is cool but only one of 4 factors country needs to do something in this game now days. Firepower, unity, great foreign policy and a few dozen millions of cc in stock. Just ask Lithuanians how much EBs and cc they spend last few months before joining Asteria 😃
And I though it is well knows how awesome eCanada and its players are 😃
We call it Choppnada; Canada is for normies.
😂

Pro brexit !
"Since BigAnt decided to "liberate" us from Wayne's "illegal" dictatorship, we've been on a downward spiral."
Stopped reading there, I'm not a fan of erep fiction stories.
Where's the fiction? BigAnt did initiate a liberation and the only "illegal" thing that Adders and Wayne did was against meta, not mechanics.
Well the rest of the article wasn't even a story so you've properly ****ed up there mate
Solid response Mr Prime Minister!

I voted against Brexit - but acknowledge that we are now committed tothis path - and so have to make it work as best we can.
This isa well written article from Paul, who despite being a bit mad, is quite articulate and produces output which is fun to read.
I put my support and faith in our government to get us to a better place. In particular I look to Wayne to use his laddish charm and banter on new potential allies to show them that eUK is a Nation worth supporting!
I'm the last person that should be charming potential allies, I'm a man of certain taste...
