[Weekstrom]Profitability of Fighting. TP and BH Medals.

Day 3,533, 09:05 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by Weekstrom

I had wanted to publish this during my term as MoD along with some other things. Due to RL issues with my father however I was unable to do so. As it is something worthy of realising however I decided to put the extra effort in it and publish it now.

As the title already suggests this is all about the profit one can make due to fighting. Most of you know the importance of training before fighting. You’ve been pointed to that often enough by me and by other players. Once you’ve done so however it’s time to harvest. That can be done in several ways. To name the main options;
- Sell your damage as a mercenary. Mainly from the past although still possible on occasion. It however was largely replaced by;
- Scoring Combat Order (CO) money. Fight for money set in a campaign. The amount varies from 10cc per million damage up until a rare 100 cc/mil in D4 and even higher in lower divisions.
- Scoring a Battle Hero (BH) medal
- Scoring a True Patriot (TP) medal

In this article I’ll focus on the last two as a combination given our Training War (TW) with our eCanadian friends. The main focus of the article is at D1-3 players and for them the combination of BH and TP Medal could (should?) be the reason to do some (extra) fighting now rather than just train.

Special thanks to the following players for pointing me to (possible) flaws or things being unclear;

I’ll start with the most simple one in this case;

The True Patriot Medals.

TP Medals are rather simple yet in eNL not that often possible as we hardly have any battles due to governments being unwilling/unable to provide them. That is a rather sad fact especially as battling makes a nation prosperous. So nations actively fighting have a wealthy population while nations that don’t, on average, have players that are trying to survive as most of our economic options do not provide profit anymore.

Back to the TP Medal. As I said it’s rather simple. For every given amount of damage you get a medal. Along with the medal you receive 1,000cc. After 4% taxes you end up with 960cc. Starting with medal 16 for every 100 million damage you get a medal. In other words per million you get 9.6cc. Fighting for one’s home nation therefore is like fighting with a CO of 9.6cc/mil. Medals 1-15 are rewarded faster so you even have a higher CO so to speak, but likely you do way lower damage as well if you don’t have them yet so it will be more expensive to score a medal and wiser to focus on training for now. For the first 15 medals you need to drop 200 million damage.

In this article I’ll focus on medal 16 and higher. What I will show you is the net profit you make when fighting for your home country depending on your strength and on the costs you make for food and using Q7 tanks.
In the picture below you’ll see 2 small tables with the costs per hit (3.2cc), and the reward and requirements for a TP medal. The big table shows the damage one does with one hit. Not to be mixed with one kill as that can consist of several hits. One hit costs you 10 health. If you haven’t noticed yet; One kill can cost you 10 health but also 30 or on rare occasions even more. That is if you fight with Q7 weapons. If you use lower quality weapons (please don’t!) that can even be more.

Also shown in the table are the different options that there are to increase your damage per hit. Those are the Natural Enemy (NE) bonus of 10 % as well as the 50% and 100% damage boosters one can use. These bonuses are, contrary to what I thought at first, not stacked but multiplicative. So with an active NE ànd a 50% booster you get a total of 65% added to your BD (BD*1.1*1.5=1.65BD). Should you have a legend bonus than that also is multiplicative. So with a 20% legend bonus you would end up with 98% added to your BD (BD*1.1*1.5*1.2=1.98BD).
You can ignore the first 4 coloured columns for now. They will be explained later on.

Now first the tables for a first glance. Underneath the table you’ll find it explained further.

In the table I enlarged one line. The one with a damage per hit of 25,000. That damage per hit is the base damage of the player when using a Q7 weapon, without any modifiers. This base damage will be referred to as BD in the rest of this article. What do you read in that line? You’ll notice a figure of - 11,840 right next to the 25,000. That means you will lose 11,840 when you do 100 million damage for your TP medal. So in effect you need to bring money to fight so fighting for TP Medal alone is unwise. The way this works is like this; To make 100 million damage with 25,000 BD per hit you need to do 4,000 hits. Every hit will cost you 3.2cc. In total it will cost you 12,800cc. Due to the gained TP medal you will get 960cc. 12,800 – 960 means you lost 11,840.

So in order to make a profit when fighting for your home country you need to make sure you end up in the positive marks here. That can be done by either using damage boosters or increase your BD by training more first. I don’t recommend using boosters at this point. Unless you intend to go for a very hard battle in which you will also be spending large amounts of Energy Bars (EB’s) you’d better safe them for later. Should you decide to use them still you can also see the effect of that in the other columns. For instance, again with 25,000 BD when using a 100% booster and an active Natural Enemy (NE) the damage one does is increased by 220%. So the loss is limited to 4,858 now. Still a loss however so you need to increase your BD first.

Looking down further in the table you’ll see that at a BD of 337,500 you will always profit, no matter which boosters are active. To be more precise, as is shown in the bottom table, you should have a BD of 333,333 to break even without bonuses. So every player with that amount of BD will always fight for free or gain money when fighting for his home nation. That still is a rather high BD you need hence the combination with the BH medals.

Battle Hero Medals.

Battle Hero Medals are the main reason why you learned to train first rather than fight. To score a BH medal you need to be able to do a reasonable amount of damage with only a few hits. Using EB’s to score a BH is never rewarding as EB’s are extremely expensive when you want to buy them.

The amount of damage needed to score a BH varies. Especially in real battles the amount needed can reach amounts no-one is able to score without using EB’s. Therefore if you want to profit from fighting you need battles that have a predetermined outcome or at least are likely to have that. Our Training War with eCanada is a fine example of that. We know upfront direct war (DW, the one where eCanada attackes) will be won by eCanada and a Resistance War (RW) will be won by us. So these normally are battles in which no hard fighting will be done although it’s no guarantee it won’t happen.

So how much damage do you need for a medal?

As a MoD I kept track of our TW and also on the activity of eNL players. Based on the gathered data the average damage of the first 60 campaigns (30 DW and 30 RW) that led to a BH was calculated. These averages include all BH’s so also the ones taken by Maverick Pack users. If they stay in their own division rather than hunt for BH in lower divisions you would end up with lower needed damage but that isn’t realistic so I included them in the averages. The percentage of those actually scored by an eNL players was as I expected rather low and fuelled the need for an article like this.

As we have battles with a predetermined outcome there is a difference between the DW and RW as well. As you can see in the table below the average damage for a BH on eNL side in D1 was 7.2 million. In the DW’s that was 6.9 and the RW’s it was 7.6. You can also see the other divisions and I also included the Sky Hero (SH) medal as well as the Campaign Hero (CH) medal.

Bear in mind these are averages. Amounts fluctuate as sometimes a big hitter jumps in (Maverick or someone that used Infantry Kit to stay in a low division) and sometimes no one shows up. So you can be unlucky or very lucky, but on average these numbers match 😉

So we know the average amount of damage needed for a BH and can use that data to do the math on the profitability of fighting. The easiest way to do so in this case was to have a look at the number of BH medals one would score with 100 mil damage and add the reward to the amount of reward one gets for TP medals as I’ve showed in the first table. To be a bit on the safe side I took the average BH damage and rounded it up. So in case of D1 that means 8 mil damage is the average amount of damage needed for a BH. This means when scoring 100 mil for a TP medal this player also scored 100/8=12.5 BH medals. A BH medal in D1 is worth 2 gold. I valued gold at 520cc so in this case that means 12.5*2*520=13,000cc. So the total reward on 100 mil damage would be 13,960cc. Or a CO of 139cc/mil. Well that’s a lot isn’t it? And it looks great if you look at the same table as I showed for the TP medal. I’ll show you a small piece here;

Now before you jump in; There’s a catch. As you may have noticed I showed the start of the table. The same line as I used earlier, the one with 25,000 BD now shows a smaller loss of 5,340 rather than a loss of 11,840. And indeed these figures are correct. And a player with a BD of 50,000 (or even 45,000 but I use 50,000 for the ease of math later on) would make a profit.

However a player with 50,000 BD will never be able to score that profit. The reason for that is that he does not have the energy to do so. If that player was to score 8 million damage in one go he would need to do 160 hits. To do so he would need an energy storage of 800 energy. That can be achieve with active houses or some Packs, but it is highly unlikely a player with that amount of BD will have houses active or pack. Unless it’s a huge RL money spender on eRep. But as the majority in eNL isn’t I don’t do the math with that. Using EB’s would be another way to achieve that but as this is about the profitability of fighting EB’s are out of the question. Using one can be done to secure your BH, but try to avoid it!

Instead I used the following assumptions; All players start with a standard energy storage of 500. Filled to the max and fully refillable that means a 1,000 energy pool. Players in D1 and D2 need their gold to upgrade training grounds and other stuff like buying a higher energy storage. I therefore did keep the energy storage of D1 and D2 players at 500. A D3 player I suspect to have increased his energy storage to 650. D4 I’ll address later on.

Now given that amount of energy available what BD seems fitting to be able to score a BH without using EB’s? A D1 player to score 8 mil while having a 1,000 energy pool (100 hits) needs to have a damage per hit of 80,000. So dumping all his energy at once makes it possible. Not ideal to my taste however as you have hardly any margin to drop some more damage should someone challenge you. You would immediately have to use EB’s to counter. I therefore did maximise the energy consumption to 75% of the energy pool one has. In this case that would mean 750 energy or 75 hits. This results in the table below in which is showing the amount of hits to be made to score a BH per division. Based on the guidelines outlined above I also gave an indication if BH is a viable option (using 75% or less of the energy pool; green background) possible (using 75 up to 100% of the energy; yellow) or impossible (red indeed).

For D1 and D2 I show the amounts with 500 energy and with and without NE. For D3 both the 500 and 650 energy storage and for D4 650 and 2,650 energy storage (explained below the table). Now let’s take one line being the one of a player with 150,000 BD. You’ll see in D1 this player will only need 53 or even 48 hits with NE bonus to score the average BH. Out of a pool of 100 hits that should be an easy option.

If this player were to be in D2 it would still be possible to score a BH of 14 mil, but with 93 or 85 hits there is little margin left should someone challenge him.

Should this player already be D3 it is impossible to score a BH of 20 mill without EB’s as he needs 133 or 121 hits. Even when having an energy storage of 650 and therefore a pool of 130 hits it would be hard as only with a NE bonus it would be possible to score the average BH with 121 hits. But there is hardly any margin so this player should not have reached D3 yet.

Now on D4 a bit. As you can see in the rather length table above a D4 player with an energy storage of 650 will be able to score a BH of 115 mil only when he has a BD of 900,000 when no NE is active. He will have to use 128 hits and only has 2 left to defend the BH. With NE active it’s a bit better as he will have to do 116 hits (or if he's still at 825,000 BD it would be 127 hits).

As D4 players do not have to withhold in dropping damage and are likely to be able to score damage boosters on a regular basis via the weekly challenge and/or build them with the rocket/booster building facility I also included the option with a 50% booster active along with the NE bonus. In that case a BH would “already” be possible at 550,000 BD. Or if he had 900,000 dmg per hit he would only need 77 hits and be able to counter should he be challenged.

As I stated at the start; These damages are base damages. No one has that kind of BD yet. Therefore in D4 it is impossible to score the average BH of our TW with a 650 energy pool and without using EB’s. Therefore a D4 player that wants to score a BH regularly needs extra energy buildings. I opted to include the 2,000 energy building from the Blitzkrieg Pack to show you the possibilities. Along with the Power Pack that provides you with extra energy recovery (and another 200 energy storage) it could even be possible to pay for them in game with cc without having to use RL money yourself. It is however very hard to do so in D4 and in my experience, at the current market prices, it isn’t really without other means of income.

That however is another issue. For the purpose of this article I limit myself to showing you the possible profit of fighting in D4 with that 2,000 energy pool added. As you can see at 220,000 BD scoring a BH becomes possible without bonuses but only just. With NE active the margin becomes a bit better and with also the 50% booster active it should be fairly straight forward.

A word from advise on levelling up.

It is spoken about a lot in the past. You need to train a lot before you level up. How much however was, to my knowledge, never really pointed towards. With the reasoning from above applied my advice to you all would be to make sure you have reached
- 110,000 BD before you are going to fight for BH’s in D1
- 190,000 BD before levelling from D1 to D2 (lvl 35 or 50,000 XP)
- 210,000 BD ànd have 650 energy storage before levelling from D2 to D3 (lvl 50 or 125,000 XP)
- 300,000 BD ànd be able to afford an extra energy storage via Blitzkrieg Pack before levelling from D3 to D4 (lvl 70 or 225,000 XP). And frankly you need to be able to afford the Power Pack as well. As it is highly unlikely a lot of players will meet these criteria those that don’t need to be prepared to play a role in the margin when it comes to fighting. But then there is always CO and TP so fighting will not be impossible. You just can’t play along with the big boys 😉

Now I do realise that this is a very hard target and likely no-one will be able to wait that long. And even I don’t have that BD yet. And although I deem it wise to wait as long as possible to jump to D4 that will only be possible either by doing nothing but train which is rather boring or buy the Infantery Kit that prevents you from gaining XP. If you don’t feel like/are able to do either of those at least try to have reached a BD of 140,000+ so on occasion you will be able to score a BH with NE and 50% booster active while also having some extra storage. And you won’t be totally unable to get BH’s. The average 115 mil is not the minimum. You will sometimes be able to score BH with 75 mil or so or just before week change even way lower as most safe energy till after week change.
The above explain the colours in the first 4 columns. My advice is to stay/be in the green before levelling up/fighting. If you are eager to level up you might opt for yellow but it will be hard for you. And if you’re in the red you are in trouble when it comes to what became the core of the game.

A warning on NE.

Bear in mind the NE bonus only counts in direct battles, not in Resistance Wars.

Now let’s see the potential profits per division from BH’s.

Division 1 results.

Division 2 results.

Division 3 results.

Division 4 results.

As you can see the reward for D1-3 don’t differ that much and are huge. For D4 they are way lower due to the fact damage dealt in D4 is substantially higher than it is in lower divisions. To make it more clear I made the table below where all rewards per division with standard damage are next to each other.

Once again this shows levelling up to D4 should be avoided for as long as possible. The amount of profit one can make in D1-3 is substantially higher.
Let’s have a look at what happens if you do 2,000,000,000 damage a week, which is not that hard if you have a few packs, especially Blitz and Power along with Infantry so you stay low in XP. The table below shows per division the amount of BH’s one can score and the rewards coming from it. As you can see on average D1-3 scores 164 BH’s valued at 443 gold or 230,000 cc per week. Doing that all weeks would result in more than 900,000 cc per month which is more than enough to buy those packs with cc from one of the players selling them.

Being in D4, again, makes it way harder to do so as can be seen un the bottom line that shows a D4 players would have scored 17 BH’s in our TW or just 180,000cc per month.

And as you don't gain XP with an Infantry Kit you can also actively hunt rewards in the weekly challenge that gives you free Boosters, moving tickets and EB's making it even easier to get BH's gain more and stockpile hundreds or even thousands of EB's for the moment you really need them.

That’s it for now. Perhaps later on I’ll publish some other stuff on the potential profits of fighting. For now please read it, try some of the things I mentioned and comment if you like it, see something that you don’t get, is wrong or any other reason.

That leaves one thing; If you are wondering what your BD is you can find it on this site.
