Social Enterprise

I am a fan of social enterprise. Both on eRepublik and out of it, companies which contribute the most to society and the economy are companies that have sustainable and steady streams of profit. Profit leads to other positive things such as respected managers and content workers.

Profit is not something we should frown upon. In fact, it is something we can use to improve our country. All the modules have their limitations, and the economic module is no exception. However, eRepublik focuses around one core principle that can ease some of these limitations: co-operation.

By offering advice and added incentives to new players, we can encourage co-operation within the community. Much like in real life, the economic module is the centre piece of eRepublik; it is the glue that holds the rest of the modules together. Despite being such an integral part of a new player’s experience, the economic mode is very much a hit and miss affair. Without being taken under the wing of a wily old fox, few can hope to succeed without making mistakes along the way. Giving new citizens a mentor and a task would also help with the eUK’s retention problems.

What kind of incentives and tasks might we offer? It’s simple: people can apply to the government, for an interest free loan to set up their company. The only stipulation is that the loan is secured on the company which they buy: so they cannot sell the company without informing the government. As well as this, companies must be UK based (manufacturing, house or grain companies only), or export reasonably priced goods to the UK (iron, wood, diamonds or oil.)

Any UK based companies will be invited to take part in a new, retention-busting scheme, which offers new players a route into the buzzing UK community, with lots of help, assistance and guidance from our experienced players. As well as this, company managers will get 0.25 gold knocked off their loan amount, for every player they can get forum and IRC active. Not only will this encourage players to join the community and start co-operating with other players, it will also establish businesses within the eUK marketplace, leading to a more profitable economy.

Should companies not manage to recruit people within the 3 month term in which loans are offered, their original loan must be paid in full, in gold.

The focus these days is on government - to ensure a better country, we need more ministries, better ministers, or more organisation. The fact is, we have had lots of highly organised ministries for quite some time now; so perhaps it is time to begin to allow the combined strength of our active, kind and quite frankly, lovely, community: we can embrace our new recruits: aide them, message them, guide them. In exchange for people working hard, it is only fair they are rewarded; provided they agree to offer fair wages, and continue to ensure valuable and helpful employment for our new citizens. It is much easier for 10 people running companies to help new citizens in combination with a ministry to "catch" the rest, than it is for a ministry to just do things outright. As well as this, our markets lack competition: and so the pig disgusting greed of capitalists ensures that our goods are usually uncompetitive: this initiative really is two birds with one stone:

We can use our combined strength to nurture new players, whilst simultaneously creating more competition, and thus more jobs, in companies which sell more competitively priced goods, for our dear country.

Subliminal message: trust me and give me all your gold (back to the top)

valid.gif">Ensure our strongest economic minds are united
valid.gif">Increase communication

In game, we are lucky: we have a lot of people who are economically astute. Our problem lies in the unification of our ministries with our congress. Through my branching chiefs I hope to create someone who is basically a go-to, or contact point, should anyone have a concern, query, or want to get involve😛 they can then be passed on to the relevant ministry. There will be 3 branching chiefs: domestic, economic and military. This will be outlined in my Cabinet manifesto; suffice to say - economically, I am confident we can unite our minds, and ensure we are working in tandem.

Version 2

valid.gif">Create contingency plans and funding for V2
valid.gif">Try to increase our tax revenue

You never know: it may come this term. What I want to create, is a coherent set of plans that can hopefully ensure a smooth transition - from the experience of others, it is clear that to try and second guess the changes, and plan based on this, would more than likely backfire. I think worst case scenario planning would be a much more astute move. I would task all economic ministries with using their tools, people and knowledge with ensuring that any future transition does not turn into an unmitigated disaster.

As well as this, I will be looking into alternative revenue streams: who says a countries income can come solely from taxes? Our Ministry of ??? Profit (under me) managed to locate and use some profits, unfortunately my reign pre-dated the eRepublik exchanges, as well as coming after the removal of contracts: so what we could do was limited - but suffice to say, things today are more exciting: and alternative routes will be explored.

This term, I will be tasking the Ministry to re-take their companies, freeing up our finance minister. As well as this, we can look at other schemes: taking advantage of MM programmes, ERX/ErepX, more government owned run-for-profit companies - for fear of binding my minister I will not go into detail, but will ensure that as with all ministries communication is kept at the top of the agenda.

Short of that, I believe after the stimulus package we offered, our country is very much on the right track - wages are on the up, as are prices, and we have a healthy inflation, as well as a steady flow of GBP. This ensures that businesses are generating ample profits, as well as paying reasonable wages and offering goods that our citizens can afford and enjoy. Although should we hit another eRecession, I will task the committee with fixing anything, everything and everyone.

Lots of love,
jamesw
how many of these must I write for your vote?
