[ESO] Tips and Hints for New and New(ish) Players

The above image is indicative of a trend in eRepublik, and social gaming as a whole. Whilst in theory this game is free in every way to enjoy, it is coded to ensure that nowadays, the real progression can only come with tagged on 'bought' items or gold.

For the avoidance of doubt, these offers are a regular occurrence and are by no means special anymore. They have been cycled for months on end now, and because of the funding requirements of the game, and the ease with which it encourages people to buy gold, they probably won't ever stop.

So the most important tip for you in relation to growing in eRepublik: time your purchases. You will need to upgrade companies, and training grounds if you want to grow in strength, and make more money every day, but that doesn't mean you need to buy gol😛 bide your time, save your gold, then when you see an offer jump for joy and do what you've been waiting to!

My advice has always been that buying gold is not a wise investment: even if you have lots of companies, you won't make enough to catch up old players. Ever. Because those old players such as myself, were around when it was possible to make huge profits from companies - if you have less strength than me now, you won't ever be able to surpass me unless I stop training.

If you have less damage per hit, the only way you'll beat me, is by spending an absolute fortune on fighting nonstop - which is of course a silly thing to do. But if you're talking income: this is where spending gold DOES make sense.

MAKING GOL😨

First and foremost, companies require GOLD to be upgraded. If you wait for the right offer period, you will get a substantial discount on creation costs (40% on Raw Materials companies) and upto 50% on Weapons companies' upgrade costs. As well as that, these upgrade discounts normally come with 'extra gold' added to gold pack purchases. So if you do want to buy gold, its advised you wait until these 'special deals' come up.

However companies are not the only source of making gold. Taking advantage of the military module, it is now possible for players to 'farm' gold. There are four routes to farm gold through the medals awarded for military achievements

Firstly, and for newer players most importantly is the True Patriot medal. This medal is awarded for reaching damage milestones when fighting for your own country. Especially for newer players, these milestones are incredibly achievable, and should serve as a healthy gold farming tool when you first join the game.

Secondly is the Battle and Campaign Hero medals. These are awarded to soldiers (one per division) for dealing the most damage in either a 2 hour 'round' or Battle, and then the full 'Campaign' or battle. A war or battle can have upto 15 'rounds' or mini-battles in it, depending on the results of each round. A battle ends when one of the sides reaches 83 points. Until this happens, rounds will continue to occur. A round will continue until one side has 1800 points. For more information on this process check out the wiki, here.

Anyway, put simply, this is a way for turning your weapons, energy bars (and if in lower divisions, bazookas/bazooka boosters) into gold. Strategy will reward those who pick the right time, and place, to put in high amounts of damage.

Finally, I have combined the remaining two routes, as both have a certain synergy in awarding gold. The Mercenary and Freedom Fighter medals. Firstly, the Mercenary medal is awarded when you have defeated 25 enemies for 50 different countries. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to defeat them, it is awarded when you kill the 25th enemy for the 50th country.

A Freedom Fighter medal is awarded when you kill a specified number of enemies, in a specified number of Successful resistance wars.

Both of these medals can be earned at the same time, so if you kill 25 enemies for The Resistance of Country A, you will be on your way to achieving both your Freedom Fighter and Mercenary medal.

SAVING GOL😨

If you are a player who uses training 'boosters' to increase the amount of strength you get daily, its worth noting the training contracts. They are both profitable for you to buy, but the 90% discount is substantially more cost effective. Thus, if you spend more than 1.78 gold per day on training boosters, this contract reduce your monthly cost of training.

The 50% discount would save you gold if you spend more than 0.56 gold per day on training boosters. Thus, if you spend less than 0.56 gold per day: never buy a training contract. If you spend less than 1.78 gold per day: make sure you have a 'nest egg' of roughly 28-30 gold for the 50% training contract offer, so you can buy it when it is on offer. If you spend 1.78 gold or more per day: make sure your 'nest egg' is roughly 50-55 gold.
