Stumblin' in

Day 4,760, 09:15 Published in Austria Austria by RodderickJames

As you stumble into this game of eRepublik, you can’t help but wonder what this is.
Is it a simulation of politics? Surely not. Is it a strategy game? Meh, I’m not sure. Maybe both aspects come with time, once you are able to look behind the curtain a little. Maybe? My first impression was this: Ok, there’s a war. How does it work? I click. I click, I win. I click, I win. And again. All my attacks are succesful. Is it me who is so brillant (in clicking the same button over and over) or are all opponents even worse beginners than me? (Maybe they miss the button every second time? Who knows…)

This is also what makes this game fun to play: It is absolutely great in giving you a sense of achievement. Feelings of success that come pretty cheap and often. And who doesn’t need some of them from time to time? Especially in times where you sit at home most of the day living a to some degree reduced life.
There are a whole bunch of loops implemented that give you the feeling of positive development:

1) There’s the weekly challenge with boni to unlock
2) There’s loot from your opponents you can gather during fights (to build bazookas – powerful weapons for a beginner 😉
3) There are your skills, strength and perception, you can develop. Ok, there is strength. Just strength..
4) There are ressources to gain, first of all money and gold.
5) Achievements and medals
6) Influence gain by going up the ranks
7) a growing loot stack with special weapons and even bigger weapons
… and probably something else I have forgotten

So there’s always something positive happening. You can see your little soldier grow (please! …) and be proud of him (come on now!).
But in terms of strategy?

I found it pretty disappointing to discover that more or less all wars are basically just for training. For getting medals, for everyone to get stronge, and even stronger. But for what? What exactly ist he goal here? Maybe I will find out along the road. Or you can tell me? 🙂

So for the time being I keep stumbling along here and enjoing what I find. The company of other stumblers. And all those little successes that make me feel really really clever.

Take care everyone!
