Like you my job is considered essential so worked throughout.
Like you no one in my immediate family caught the virus so we all stayed healthy.
No holidays or trips... my family obeyed rules to the letter.
I know friends who had family members die but we cocooned my 91 year old mother so she stayed safe.
All my siblings, myself and my mother are vaccinated with at least one dose now. I & my wife got J&J last weekend so fully vaccinated.

So all in all we are lucky so far but it is still with us so we all need to keep our guards up.

I consider those who think this is a hoax or are anti Vax or anti mask as idiots who need to be locked away for their own safety never mind the rest of us. I do not understand how such stupid people managed to stay alive so long that they made it to adulthood.

Anyway never mind in game differences this is a real world health emergency and I wish everyone in this world the best and hope you live to remember the great pandemic of 2019/2020/2021

I too am an essential worker. I work in a facility that was revamped to produce masks and hand sanitizer.

I myself had Covid in the beginning months before it was even recognized as a pandemic. I was very ill for a couple weeks but recovered nicely.

I also obeyed all the rules, wore my masks and social distanced. In fact, I live in New York state and our governor has only this week lifted the mask mandate for fully inoculated people but I still wear mine. We had a lot of
deaths among people and friends I know.

I have the antibodies so I've not been inoculated. I know several people who are anti vax and I consider it their right to vax or not to vax. There are many opinions about the safety of the vaccines and I'm not about to judge anyone.

Throughout this whole ordeal I supported as many of my local diners, restaurants, and mom and pop corner grocers as much as I could. I double tipped servers and anyone who delivered meals to our facility and I also watched out for elderly neighbors and immunocompromised individuals I know who couldn't go about their daily lives.

I too wish everyone good health and safety until this is a thing of our distant past.

Not really, I only did what I would hope others could do. New York was hit bad and we're just now able to have a bit of normalcy.

Yes and thats why i called you an angel and not super girl or wonder woman, there are many angels in everyday life whom we fail to recognize. You're kind doing whatever you did and i wish you good health too.

Worked whole time (1 month break for whole factory, no work).
Got covid 11/2020, got quarantined with wife and two children aged 2,5 and 1 month in a flat 50m2. 1/2021 quarantined with older daughter because of her chickenpox for 10 days. 4/2021 wife got covid (children probably to, had symptoms but tested negative), quarantined for 20 days in the same flat. No travel, little baby...
Mental torture on the highest level, near breaking many times. 5/2021 got first vax, waiting for the second. Physically all good, my covid was very light, wifes was little stronger (still no smell no taste).

I'm still exhausted and still no smell/taste. I taste the more pungent things like garlic and onions but not all things yet.

I worked whole time. In the family noone caught the virus, at the workplace close fellow workers did with light symptoms, but I heard about deaths too. I was tested only once for negative result. Since I didn't travel much anyway apart from wearing mask there wasn't much change in life. Some of my family members are already vaccinated I am not yet.

I spent my time at home working on things that didn't got enough of my attention. I live in one of the worst COVID-struck regions of my country so I had to completely adapt my daily routine to work online and barely see my friends. After a year I'm starting to feel exhausted.

Good for me: before COVID, friends and family often noticed my obsession with washing my hands... Now no one does!

None in my family caught it, and I'm getting my first dose next week (as well as people my age).

I wasn't exactly obsessed with hand washing but I sure do wash more now out of habit.

we took a break although could have gotten a permit but regulations was so confusing. will next time get a permit and continue as normal during days i made stepping stones. most of which was sold. and paving which i used myself. other than that just relaxed at home. afterwards our business did experience a good turn. and eventually i returned to my normal job. are paying off my 1 credit card now for a third time came far with some projects and wanted to spend more time dividing my interest at work. but tend to not get time. had sinusitus for a long period last year so think im better protected against the covid. some client used it as excuse to get out of doing stuff so had to undergo a test last year. in truth the guy is just a liar but i assume life will sort him out later. bit of a lozenge so not worth my time to f* him up. my work is now split on 2 opposite poles . one day i work on the one side and the next day i will do the exact opposite work. about 2 months back finished my chicken coop to a point so will continue on the weekend and when i have more money double its size.

one friend that got vaccinated started having a growth on the back of his head looks like a little nose.

its winter so not really that good. weed garden mostly.

Doing essential work as well. Not going to get the vaccine. If I get it, then I get it. Dont trust no darn kluged together vaccine.

A lot of people share your view on the vaccines. The worst thing I experienced with having Covid was the sheer physical exhaustion. I'm still recovering from that after a year and half. Quarantining wasn't fun either.

Good

Immediate family and friends covid free or mild covid and recovered. Got a lot of free time dus to work from home

Bad

Quite a lot of people like distant relatives, coworkers, etc died. No much outdoor activity like workong out, jogs etc and no vacation.

Is everything back to normal?

Not yet, but the unlock process is supposed to start from June. It will take a few months to get back to normal. It will be done in phases. Initially only joggers and cyclists will be allowed, then later companies can be allowed to call approx 25% of their employees, maybe restaurants operating through kitchens and home delivery will open to public and gradually we will get back to normal.

I am also an essential worker.

For me, though I had three immediate family members contract covid. Two pretty bad, one had no symptoms. One of those who contracted it was my daughter. That was hard. I would have rather had it myself than have one of my children get it. But we are all fine now.

That being said with those family members getting sick and my job working in a public school I had multiple close contacts and spent about 5 weeks total in isolation. That was not fun. I was tested multiple times and it always came back negative but still had to stay in isolation.

I am now completely vaccinated and one of my children is too with the other two waiting for their second dose. After that we will be good I feel. I still think that people need to be cautious. This is not over yet. Still mask up when required. This is serious and those who think otherwise I just don't understand.

Those who refuse vaccine because they are utterly misreading the relative risks are plain stupid.... and need to restart at preschool clearly with a side order of critical thinking lessons

I got COVID in Mali, the bad thing i was in isolation for 10 days with minor simptoms, the good thing that i lost smell, and it was an advantage there couse its a stinky shithole 😉

My wife had pneumonia and test was positive. Symptoms was mild, temperature was not high, about 37 generally. She was at work (distance teaching, there was lockdown in the region these weeks). No typical taste or smell issues,pneumonia was rather bacterial one than typical covid. It was seen on simple X-ray film, not CT scan for Covid cases.
I and daughter have no symptoms at all, and haven't been tested.

Everyone at home tested positive a couple of weeks ago -we had been really careful but well, sometimes things like this happen-. However, we had almost no symptoms. No taste for a couple of days, a bit of headache, but nothing worse than a normal cold, So, we were quite lucky.

Life with Covid? I can do most of things from home, so I would say I´m having a better time than most of the people. Worse? Not being able to spend time with elderly family members, for sure.

Well I'm glad to know your symptoms were very mild. The headache I had could kill a mule, lol. Still being careful here, you do same!

BACKGROUND
I am an old, cranky rl Canadian. Fortunately retired, as my previous work involved health-related initiatives with really challenged communities. I simply could not have functioned effectively under covid. Currently, much of my daily life is focused on my wife’s health-related limitations.

BAD
We did not see our grandchildren for nearly a year. They are now eight and ten, and only live 2KM away. When we finally saw the grandkids a few weeks ago, the surprise saddest conversation was explaining where our older cat went to. The eight year old didn’t think it was fair. At times, we desperately needed to see anyone else but each other. It worked out, but was difficult.

I am worried by the foolishness of anti-vaxxers and minimisers who figured so prominently in North American news. At the same time, those who voiced what I call ‘duck-billed platitudes’ about unity and a new global awareness left me saddened and gobsmacked. We have both had the first Pfizer, and are scheduled for the second in a few weeks.

All in all, this is not part of how I envisioned my golden years.

I'm sure a lot of people wished they were retired instead of having to cope with nursing home residents and mental health patients. I felt lucky to have survived Covid and was able to be essential enough to help others.
Glad you were able to finally see the grandkids and stay healthy through it all. Things will get better!
