Why Greece decided to be friends with Turkey?

Ok, so here's the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine) in it's largest teritory ever (pink):


In the Bosphorus is situated one of the largest cities in the world, which happened to be the capital of the empire.

So here are Greece and Turkey:



As you can see, the capital of the empire is currently the Turkish city of Istanbul, and there are several other big cities, who are also on turkish teritory. Also, Turkey has a bigger territorial part from the empire, than Greece. In the same time, there are one or two big towns in Greece since then.

So, my guess is, that Greece aknowleged the fact, that they can never restore the Empire, since they are too weak to fight the Turks, and they decided to become friends with them, and to try and get something from us.
