SFP: The Best Decision I Could've Made

Day 4,678, 08:43 Published in USA Spain by Flashback1

To start, this isn't really a propaganda piece for the SFP. I've been wanting to write down my thoughts for a while, largely due to how often I see similar articles published for the other major eUSA parties. So grab a snack, sit back, and enjoy this incredibly long-winded narrative.

I started playing eRepublik in January of 2013. For perspective, I was in eighth grade then; now I'm in my last year of university and preparing for law school. I played the game (more focused on politics and social interaction than fighting) for two years before I lost steam and shelved it. Then, five years later, I decided to hop back on and see if there was anything left.

I was thrilled to see that there was still an active player-base and that, despite some changes, eRepublik still felt the same. But I had no idea where to start. When I began in 2013 I stuck around USWP for quite some time and did two terms in Congress, then, I hopped into the short-lived Liberty Advancement Party and clocked another term. By early 2015 I was content to sit in the Federalist Party until I eventually disappeared.

So I hopped onto the parties tab and went down the list, checking out each one. I knew the SFP was always around and active back in 2013-14, but never had a single interaction with a member of the party. So I made a decision: I would join a party that I had never been in before, in the hopes that I would have the opportunity to jump right back into politics.

After a few days of creeping on the party feed, I decided to reach out to the PP at that time, hcmadman. He got back right away, welcoming me to the party and linking me to the discords and forums that the party uses. He could've stopped there. But then, he sent some food and CC my way to help me get back on my feet. A day later he asked if I was interested in signing up for the Revolutionary Committee. When I was having trouble getting onto the forum he put my name into consideration himself so I didn't miss the deadline. I know that not every Party President has the time to do this for every new member. But hc was more than happy to, and for someone rejoining the game after a huge break, that meant a lot.

A few weeks after rejoining I was elected to the SFP Congressional delegation. There were some concerns about a "new" player being a representative for the party. But after that first term, I've never felt more supported and reaffirmed by fellow players. Shiloh13, in particular, has been so willing to give me chances to prove myself, from supporting me after my first term in Congress to adding me to his cabinet last month when elected PP.

These gestures, while small to some, made me want to keep playing. SFP brought me back and kept me interested. And with everything going on in the world, I'm grateful to have this escape and to know that if I want to try something new, all I have to do is ask. o7
