Having Fun?

Day 4,242, 07:21 Published in Netherlands Australia by JackTrout

For some reason, I find myself stuck in New Mexico. I thought, since there isn’t much fun stuff in the news just now, I’d show you some of the reasons I maybe can’t seem to leave here.

So welcome to JT’s tour of northern New Mexico!

Just a couple weeks ago, the great snowboarding season came to a close.
Sipapu (shown) is about 45 minutes from my house.

Now, we are into whitewater season. Land of my summer job, 20 minutes to the put-in for the Racecourse on the Rio Grande lower gorge (class III-IV whitewater,
with nearby float trips if you just want to chill).

And rock climbing. This is near the put-in for the Taos Box (class IV-V whitewater, about 2 hours from home)

Once the river drops, the horses get more exercise. Hire these guys
(the horses, yo) about 20 minutes drive (free for some of us).

Balloon trips are popular year round, but you gotta see the Mass Ascension at least once. This happens every October in Albuquerque (for me, a 2 hour drive).
Dress warm if you’re going up.

All this fun makes me hungry. Hatch green chile- we own it (sold everywhere locally). Goes beautifully with a Dos Equis or 6!

I like a domestic beer for a slower day. This is the Rio Pueblo,
with fine trout pools about a 30 minute drive.

Well, there’s a lot more, but I have to work. Hope you enjoyed the tour! And yeah, except for the rock climbing, I like all this stuff. Just can’t think what keeps me here. 😉

Cheers,

JT
