Smoke 'em if you got 'em!
The 145th Revolutionary Committee of the Socialist Freedom Party has come to order!
This term, the RC is chaired by revolutionary thinker and organizer, Wilhelm Rontgen.
Chairman Rontgen, scientist and revolutionary
Twice President of the e-USA
Founder of the Co-operative Movement
Persistent enemy of Tyranny. All-round people's champion. And a helluva nice guy.

About the Chairman

This marks WR's 8th time sitting in the little red chair at the head of the SFP's family table, putting him in the epic company of legendary multi-term chair-sitters like Mark Valshannar, Jimmy Cincinnati, Jude Connors and Captain Recks.

Chairman Rontgen is a down-to-earth revolutionary comrade who makes eye contact. He engages with other players, reaches out across all the fake and imaginary boundaries which keep players divided, and does investigation before speaking. He listens to what others have to say, and is kind with our language, respecting its importance.

A physics fan, Wilhelm is accustomed to thinking in a scientific manner and looks to develop truth from evidence. Not one to reflexively obey in advance, nor to believe things just because they've "always been that way", he thinks ahead, understands the nature of things, and has a vision for the future.

Program for the 145th Revolutionary Committee

Never one to let old dogs, or tired old libertarian-socialists, rest on their laurels for long, Comrade Rontgen has indicated that his goals will focus on...

- Using a mass line approach -- not only with SFP members, but with the entire citizenry of the New World -- to better understand players' needs and desires

...in order to...

- Help strengthen the foundational structures of dual power, based on a co-operative economy managed through revolutionary organizations.

If you're interested, there's a deeper explanation of these concepts and practices below.

Workers! Soldiers! Producers! Writers and Artists! Players of All Nations!
Let's form Networks of Co-operatives and Create a Peoples' Power!

Visionary thinking like Wilhelm's ideas for a Co-operative Society has kept the Socialist Freedom Party alive and kicking for many years, continuing to innovate, and to push the boundaries of what's thinkable and what's possible in eRepublik.

We think it's tons of fun and hope that you will too!

We call on our fellow players around the world, and on the good citizens of the e-USA in particular, to heed the Chairman's call to think in a new way, to link up with the revolutionary organizations, and to transform the New World!

Now here's are a bunch of words to chew on...

What is the mass line and how does it work?

If you're not up on revolutionary terminology, you can be forgiven for thinking that the "mass line" refers to a subway system in Boston. Or maybe to some cockamamie BS preached by priest on Sundays.

It's neither of those things. The mass line is an approach to organizing and developing the revolutionary forces in society which recognizes the primary role of the people themselves in making radical change.

In The Exposition of Co-operative Society, WR explained it this way:

"The first thing that our revolution should consider is the development of a mass line. We must as a party, reach out to- motivate- inspire- the citizens of eUSA. We must develop a chain of communication, not just within our party, but outside of it. Thereby creating a network of active players and comrades in which their concerns about the economy, government, and party organizations can be fed into. We then will tailor our development of new cooperatives, party organization, programs, and government policy that we support, according to our mass line and the needs of the individuals that make it up."

SFP members noticed an interesting change brought about by this approach right away. Rather than only the dozen or so members of the Revolutionary Committee being asked to provide their feedback at the start of the new term, brother Wilhelm immediately opened an in-game thread that includes all the Party members, asking them to weigh in on a series of key questions.

His intention is to do similar outreach internationally and across the nation, so that the revolutionary organizers will be hearing and listening to, directly, the voices of the players.

Grabbing ahold of the mass line is not the same thing as populism. It is not about making small changes that make the daily e-grind more palatable, or just keeping our eyes only on the daily struggle. And it is certainly not about tailing behind the most backward, reactionary elements of e-society.

Instead, it is rooted in the understanding the value of bringing ever-larger numbers of players into contact with revolutionary ideas and practices.

Why is this important?

The players' experiences are spontaneously driven by the internal contradictions of the game's default capitalist-imperialist structural role-playing model. As everyone knows, these contradictions are increasingly problematized with every passing month and year. Fact is, it's only revolutionary re-organizing -- not a few tweaks here and there, not making sure, for example, that a particular party holds the executive for a few weeks, or deciding on a best method for meta-voting -- that will change things in a fundamental way.

This doesn't mean the Party members don't or won't partipate in regular political channels, or that we wouldn't love to be in charge of the government for that matter. We certainly can and do want to engage at every level...

...because those are all channels for communication,
...because major structural changes beneficial to all players in the nation can be initiated from within and well as from outside of government,
...because it is important to form alliances, make friends, put forward proposals and explain them,
...because the SFP is not only a propaganda cult -- though, of course, we also seek to be the best propaganda cult! 🙂

The daily e-struggle matters. The big idea at work here is to use a mass line approach to link the daily efforts of the mass of players to the revolutionary goal, and thus keep our responsibility as revolutionaries to not abandon the masses to the default ludic model.

What is the revolutionary goal? What is meant by dual power?

In Rontgen's piece on Co-perative Society, he writes...

"Not only will this (ed. - referring to the mass line) create an organized structure, but it will create an effective way to have the voices of the eUS community be heard by a revolutionary organization. This organization should compete with the eUS government for power over our eRepublik and should receive its funding from Cooperatives and Cooperative Federations.

"Once this organization is developed we will have a dual power structure developed within eUSA where the Socialist Freedom Party and allied parties run candidates formally in the eUS government, while also maintaining and building a Revolutionary Organization outside of it, composed of Producers, Cooperatives, and Cooperative Federations that can begin to compete with it. Never to Compromise to it. And never to work with it except; when to implement policy put forward by our elected comrades in government.

"This Dual Power structure and Mass Line should be based solely on a direct democratic system, wherein there will be no representatives in decision making. The actions of this revolutionary body must reflect the needs and concerns of the citizens of this eRepublic collectively and should not be co-opted by the Socialist Freedom Party. It should be a hotbed of dissenters from all walks of eLife, and a place where discourse; however dangerous, provocative, anti-establishment, or rhetorical can be voiced and acted on by revolutionaries from all parties."

This describes a system of radically democratic horizontal autonomy, a player-based kind of power that can be created and exist on its own, regardless of government structures. It would operate more like One Big Union, where every member has a say, than like a Parliament, where only elected officials make proposals and have a vote. It recongizes parties as engines for change and development and mutual aid, rather than as competing centers for voters and government "rule".

The game model, as it exists today, provides sufficient economic and cultural resources for this type of anarcho-syndicalist dual power to exist. The rapid advancement of players who've participated in properly-run co-ops has prototyped their economic feasibility. The key to the mass line is using very broad communication channels, which is also entirely possible within the current game model.

An entirely new -- and better -- system of play is possible. Let's get on with it!

Finally, here's the Last Word from Comrade Gritty...
