[Don] What's our diplomatic position?

Day 3,283, 22:46 Published in Ireland Ireland by Black Panther I

Good morning Ireland,

Today I would like to share my thoughts on the current state of the Irish diplomacy, our foreign politics and where our future is. Before discussing the future of Irish relations with our friends, enemies and allies we need to understand the past relations we had with them, as well as events which happened and determined our past decisions. Here in Ireland, we’ve often had internal disagreements over many things, but diplomacy, our reputation has never been put under question. We need to continue in the same way, because this unconditional support to all the past Governments in their decisions considering diplomacy and relations has been crucial in making eIreland a stable, safe and most of all respected community.

Looking back proudly

eIreland is one of the few countries which has never changed or made a ‘shift’ to the other side. I really can’t remember too many of this kind. Since the day eIreland has been added to the game it had simple rules. First, we’re supporting our friends without asking for anything in return, regardless of how it is in the situation. Second, we don’t change sides, as a small country you need to show yourself as stable, easy to talk to and reliable community. Otherwise you’re gonna lose everything you are - your reputation. Irish reputation is one of our biggest strength. Remember, we don’t have more than 30 active fighters. Yes, we have some strong individuals, like BiednyMis and rich ones like Sweet, but most of the time that’s not enough. Finally, Irish third rule was and will be that we stick with our friends regardless of the alliances.

There’s been several things in our history which has been deciding factor for our diplomacy. Starting from V1, our bonds with Canada, USA and EDEN alliance. We’ve proved to be strong friend, passionate fighter and we’ve earned everyone’s respect. When Turkey applied to join in EDEN we got the chance to do the right thing. Bulgaria didn’t want them in, EDEN has been pushing them in without too much interest in our opinion. Frankly, our opinion of Turkey hasn’t been bad at all, we just thought that Bulgaria has the right to reject that. We were right. Bulgaria left, we blocked Turkey for few more months, but eventually we left too. Not more than few months later EDEN has falled apart. This was the first time a small country such as ours has played such a big role in such a big event in Erepublik’s history.

After that we kept friends on both sides. It was the main reason we’ve founded Aurora, an alliance most of the people will remember with smile on faces. It’s been a lot like EDEN in its best times. We’ve been in alliance with a lot of friends and we felt like a family there. It was passionate and great time. Later, alliances started to come and go, but our relations with certain countries has never changed. Our main allies since v1 Canada, USA and Croatia found themselves on different sides, but we’ve always tried to keep our friendship on high level. Except for Canada, we’ve been mostly successful in it. Our relations with Greece has been absolutely great in EDEN, we’ve had huge Greek community in eIreland. Argentina was another friend of ours. We kept all those relations.

In that time our new friends were Bulgaria and Macedonia. Today, they’re still our closest friends, regardless of sides. Now, I know politics has gone mad in few stuff, but important is what people think.

Our ‘boring’ position

Something we enjoy the most which is fighting for our allies nowadays kinda loses its purpose for a simple reason. We have our friends on ‘both sides’ of the world. One the one side there are Croatia, Chile, Italy and on the other side there are Macedonia and Bulgaria. We’ve tried to keep neutral stance in their conflicts and we’ve been doing it pretty successfully. It’s a boring thing to do though. I’d be happy if I could be so pragmatic to just pick a stronger side and fight for them as passionate as we fought before. But that wouldn’t be much Irish by me.

Our boring position has few great side effects too. We are now able to befriend some countries we never did. Hungarian MPP is a perfect example. Hungary has been on the other side for our whole history. Nowadays they are members of Pacifica and we were able to sign that MPP. I already have a strong feeling about this new relation because I feel like we could really become friends.

Another positive effect is our stability, peace in our regions. No country is willing to attack us because most of them would lose some MPP. We’re not doing to protect ourselves like some country do, we’re simply signing MPP’s with our allies. We’re still supporting them. A huge help has been sent to both Croatia and Hungary recently. We’ve been fighting there as strong as we can. Our ‘boring’ position doesn’t mean we’re not support our allies. We’re just not ‘totally one sided’ and sometimes it’s frustrating. What we need to do right now is show support to our allies, a massive support, like in the good old times. We gotta give our best to show our numbers, to show our flags, to fly through the battlefields.

Our position is and will be Anti Asteria, I couldn’t imagine anyone in Ireland being in favour of changing side, simply because it’s not what we do. We’re just not that kind. It doesn’t mean we consider everyone in proAsteria as enemies. That’s why it makes it boring. We can’t totally go one side which would actually make things more passionate. But what we can do is to keep supporting our side and stay out of battles against our friends. It’s the right thing to do. Hopefully we’ll have the strength to defend our position on this.

Are we going to be proud of our future?

As I already said, our past is our pride. I’m only hoping that I’ll be able to say the same in few years. eIreland now has some important questions like Governmental system, but we shouldn’t forget what Government’s job is and that’s keep improving our relations, keep our position strong and advocate for our friends.

Sooner or later, we’ll have to make a choice. Not because we want that, but because others will make us make that choice. We can’t make a wrong one though, that’s a relief. We have friends on both sides and we’ll just have to pick ones. If you ask me, I’d rather not be the one to make that call, simply because I wouldn’t feel good about it. It’s the people of Ireland who are going to make a choice, many of you probably don’t realize what I’m talking about, but you will. Soon. Just remember my words when you do.

We’re often getting diplomatic letters in which other countries, which we consider as our friends are giving us some sort of ultimatums. They are asking us not to sign with some other friend of us which is on the other side because that would be seen as ‘unfriendly move’. Ireland has never did something similar. Have we ever said something similar to our friends who MPP’d our enemies? No, never. We respect their choice, their ways they do diplomacy. All we’re asking for is the same. Respect our choice. Respect our relations, respect that we have our opinion and our own, independent policy. If you’re going to blame us for being loyal to all of our friends as long as we can that’s fine. But don’t expect us to accept any ultimatums or threats.
