Russian agression in Scandinavia halted - permanently

Day 684, 04:56 Published in USA South Korea by Master Of Brutality

After Russia was ousted from the USA, they turned their attention elsewhere - a small nation in Scandinavia, which had played an instrumental role in turning the tide of war by blocking Russia. In doing so, the nation had taken the bullet by activating Russian MPPs. This set in motion a train of events which led to the invasion of Norway.

The Nordic neighbors

The Nordic countries are a quite tough to invade. A high percentage of active players in population, good organization and co-operation. When you fight one, you're going to have to fight all of them. That's a lesson Russia learned. However, there was a curious aspect in Scandinavia - the Nordic countries had been at war with each other for a long time, for strategic reasons. MPPs can be done with anyone, but region swaps can only be done with your neighbors.

This allowed us to do some serious region- and initiative swaps, which undoubtedly caused some confusion around the world. I was always excited to see how Scandinavia would look like in the excellent article series eRep in maps by mainegreen (sub his paper for 2nd MM!).

Yep, this made me laugh

There's no way this had been possible, if the presidents of all three nations hadn't been there in time for various attacks and retreats. eRepublik is a game which requires a lot from the presidents and their advisors. Always remember this when deciding which presidential candidate you're voting - the decision not only affects your nation, but also your allies and the whole alliance.

In the end, it became apparent the best way to solve the whole conflict would be to wipe Norway off the map temporarily. Norway paid a hefty price for risking their nation for the good of the alliance. The project was not easy, and PEACE tried to intervene at every possible instance - their aim was no doubt to leave Norway rot in a corner, surrounded by a nation which had 9 activated MPPs against them. However, due to proper co-operation between allies, we were successful and Norway disappeared for 24 hours and then reappeared free of MPPs against it, blocking the way for Russia. Permanently, unless they want to try their luck vs MPPs - but this time alone.

Phoenix effect: like Spain and Canada, Norway rose from the ashes

The only thing the Russian propaganda machine could do was to half-heartedly rejoice the destruction of Norwegian hospitals - fully knowing a couple of hospitals is nothing compared to the loss of activated MPPs. In a couple of days, we'll probably see them claiming it was all an act of mercy.

Even if Russia has been stopped, they're still occupying the two northern parts of Norway. At the time of writing, Finland and Sweden have launched attacks url=http://www.erepublik.com/en/battles/show/7670]1, 2[/url against Nord-Norge. There are still battles to come, as Russia is by no means giving up the otherwise worthless regions.

With Russia stopped in Northern America and Scandinavia, where are they going to focus next? Are they going to start demanding the West Siberian Region back, or is PEACE going to give them something else to do, to distract them for a while? The war between Poland and Lithuania might give them a region to attack without activating MPPs but beyond that, they've run out of options as to where to expand. Too bad.
