Happy now?...

Day 3,585, 08:23 Published in Romania Romania by Milanezu
It's been a while...I guess it is fair and socially accepted to mention that.

Disclaimer: Musai sa scriu in engleza pentru ca persoana care m-a provocat nem tudom romana.

The intro nonsense

Honestly, I did not want to do it and could have easily seen myself articles-less until the doom of this graveyard of a game, but someone insisted...several times now... and, well, the day has come when there is literally nothing else to cover the sound of rain with but the noise of clapping keys from my keyboard - and their claps have no better use than ...this. I hope you're happy and are willing to read a pile of crap, just so that you know it comes from me. Won't reveal the user's name that drove me into creating this madness, but I do hope to see an endorse 🙂

It's not that I didn't want to write (or maybe it is a little), it is just that I didn't find the waste of energy to be useful for anything. Sure, I was tempted to write about that and this while reading hundreds of other articles - it's been THAT long - (most recently the one dedicated to ManuR - was thinking that moio1 would deserve one as well) but there always was this nice social handbreak telling me to sod off and find something better else to work on.

The clueless content - the compromise solution

Giving the fact that I have not been given a topic to write about, it is meaningful to warn the reader that I have not put the effort into finding one either, hence I have no clue on how this is going to unfold (if it will at all) - I will just go with the flow (potentially/most likely, turning this into a TL😉R material). One thing is for sure though: It is not going to be about this "amazing" ongoing "tournament" (even though I could wrap up some ideas about it), which in all fairness (I give it to "them" that it is at least something) is just another skin for a weekly challenge set of rewards. I fail to see any or very little strategical use of it, but that's just me. Although, I'll have to admit that I was tempted to buy some packs again as a first reaction, before switching on my brain. Actually, it is that which I am going to write about (had this in mind for a while anyway) - taking this ahead of a handful of other subjects which were stored in my head to be used as articles materials in erepublik (including the lengthily planned action of writing the lyrics for some song in cooperation with our one and only - fill in the blanks - - - - - - - - -)

The butterflies in the stomach AKA The Packs Effect (TPE)

Having had my topic finally set (by the randomness of one's thought), I can somehow see a reasoned attempt of a conclusion for this article. Yey!

One of the things that has always bewildered me was the continuous usage of packs in erepulik by some of the more outstanding players in the game. While I can understand, through my own experience, that packs are a/the only gate to making the game playable and can offer some insatiable dose of joy, I fail to see how this can become habitual. Surely the people that can afford it know better than blindly engaging into a drug-like addiction. I choose to believe that the same people reached a point where they can afford it due to their relatively reasonable behavior (or at least it is them that I am addressing to). And throw a spoon to the chef, I am no hypocrite trying to ditch my dirt in my neighbor's yard - I buy packs as well, but I do it with a limited and finite purpose (whether for a specific achievement, the need of CC or the existence of an event).
Is it just the thrill of taunting others? The joy of "self-enlightenment" (to be interpreted to each and every one's understanding)? Or is it just the fun and emotion of playing a game or having a good time?

It is the last question that truly tickles my mind in all the wrong places, as I've always perceived fun to only be functional if it serves a purpose and has an end to it. It is more than probable that with the money invested in a monthly packs madness, one can diversity and enrich their portfolio of fun. What is it now that an ...intense erepublik player needs to spend per month to keep the fun boat steady? 60-70 euros? 90-100? It's not a lot, but I tell you what. That kind of cash gets you 4 nights at an average ball game (whether football, handball, volleyball or whatever) or a nice toy to spice it up with your partner (there are some pretty interesting products out there on the market)...or a couple of nights out with your buddies. Hell, could easily count on a 1-2 dates with your lady/man in most of the known countries.

While my muffler might be smoking the wrong crowd, I can say for once that I speak from experience. I've tried balancing the two realities and experimented once with having saved the amount of my previous month's erepublik spending and redirected to some other activities of choice for the following month... those were some really interesting handball matches I tell you, the kind that start epics at all divisions and thrill everything down to the last blood cell in one's body. That month passed and the last day came with a conclusion...that was the day that the habitual packs buying ceased to exist.

A purposeless ending

To carry on with my rant would be madness and would move too far away from the initial purpose of this article (it was nonsense after all), but I do dare asking from you, the crowd (the irony knowing this article was written to please a single person 😃 ), that you have this short game of "What would I spend my saved money from the packs on?". It would for sure be a more interesting thing to read than the innards of this week's "tournament" or than the sticker on a bottle of water for that matter.

As for the habitual pack buyer, I am still baffled on how does one justify the erepublik spending month after month after month... Dare you explain? And may the present be too hard to comprehend, but what about the future? What is all this money going to amount for? Where to? A printscreen, 2 phone numbers and a memory long gone?

Yes, the person that made me write this (I definitely wouldn't have done it otherwise) is a habitual pack buyer.

oooh, also going to compensate one's time if anyone decides to drop a reasoned list of things that can be done and that bring better value for the money's worth of a month of erepublik packs (best 3 replies get some candy).
