I always choose to tune out the news because a lot of the things talking heads tell me are super important actually aren't all that important and doesn't really affect me.

Only very recently are things of actual impact and started sneaking into my daily life.

I fully support the Freedom Convoy. Aside from the merry hell that will happen in our economy and supply chain by so much as delaying unvaccinated truckers... I am absolutely opposed to any legal penalties of any kind for anyone exercising their medical rights to self determination in Canada. I mean seriously, abortion and euthanasia are legal here but deciding what to put in your body, that doesn't effect anyone else is apparently worth having your rights as a citizen removed.

I'm hoping that the protest brings Ottawa to its gridlocked knees.

Surely vaccination is the only way out of the pandamic as our leaders claim daily. Damn even third world countries with less ressources are living with less restrictions than us. I was actually driving through downtown ottawa from my dentist during this yesterday afternoon. They will have a lot more people tomorrow, but it really was pretty quiet when I was there (about when this video was made). The non-truckers messaging (fuck trudeau) is harming the truckers messaging (don't make it harder for me to do my job).

I am far more concerned about the supply chain issues then the actual event. As the politics of the event will bolster Trudeau's popularity in the short term. Recent polling (ipsos) shows that a super majority of the Canadian public supports stronger vaccine mandates. So their event will not result in any gains for their cause, it will probably actually hinder it. The truckers would be better served just with-holding their labour to apply more effective pressure.

I will say that it's a clever idea to use trucks and trailers (and horns) to make your crowd look bigger. But they won't have anything close to the numbers of protestors of even some of the real recent rallies on parliament hill. Like the anti-racism march last year, or any of the annual abortion rallies.

But the intrigue around this protest being akin to the January 6th USA attempted government take-over thingy has all the media and public freaked out.

I suspect the -25 degree temperature in the capital today will put a literally chill on events today however.

Shows the lack of real journalism in this country. Its all AP or Reuters copy paste. Instead of making up stories without any prove to back up why not send journalists to cover the convoy and interview as many people as possible. Did they send anyone?
What happened to investigation journalism? The paper I find that has a proper investigation unit is Journal de Montreal. And still it is garbage.

But, the reality is that the coverage (and frankly really bad messaging from the organizers) is actually going to undermine their cause. It will further intrench the public in favour of strong vax mandates. The truckers economic argument should be the prevailing message box, but that has been co-opted by the broader anti-vax movement.

And regardless of your beliefs, the fact is that in Canada 2/3rd of the public support stronger vaccine mandates. I personally worry that the longer the pandemic goes one, the more angry the vaccinated will actually become towards the unvaccinated, whom polling shows they believe are stopping a return to normal. I think we all know that stopping covid requires a lot of different health measures, not just vaccinations. But the unvaccinated are an easy target for mob mentality right now. And they provide very good cover for our governments of all political stripes to make the problem something other than their own inaction.

I agree Roger. Their messaging is not perfect and might not help their cause. Nobody is perfect and people are angry. Why demand perfection from them and not the politicians?
Why can politians get away calling names to the convoy members and fueling division but the convoy can't against them? It has to be applied both ways.
That tax is a joke. Some much for universal health care. It paves the way to consider it an insuramce now. So what now? I have not been in a hospital in 15 years. Are they giving me a tax refund? I contributed and never complained with the understanding that I will be taken care of if something were to happen.

Identity politics is one of the most disgusting things the media uses to divide the population and sew mistrust and hatred between the political divide. It's one of the main reasons why I hate journalism \so much. They take one person espousing crazy ideas and then magnify that person's opinions and applies it onto the whole group, linking it to something different. It's absolutely disgusting and it's moral decay at its finest.

I strongly believe it is a sheeple planet now. we now "pray" to the almighty media as well as the almighty dollar. whichever one tells us jump we are all jumping enthusiastically, saying "how hi" I'm using the term 'all' very loosely here.

The stupid thing is the US has imposed similar rules and this protest is completely pointless as a bunch of Canadian trucker's protesting are not changing what the US does.

Of the 92 people in hospital, 89 were admitted during the Omicron wave.

The vaccination status of those in hospital is:

— 17 (18.5 per cent) people have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine

— 55 (59.8 per cent) are fully vaccinated (two doses)

— 3 (3.3 per cent) are partially vaccinated

— 17 (18.5 per cent) are unvaccinated.

It is important to note that less than 10 per cent of Nova Scotians are unvaccinated.

So, 17 people out of 92 in hospitals are unvaccinated, 75 have some stage of vax, and the chief medical staff says, " see, we need more people vaccinated", now I might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but that doesn't make any sense at all to someone who thinks for themselves and doesn't just swallow what the Gov't and media put out there,

If only 10%of the people are unvaccinated what's the problem, we were supposed to "get back to normal" at 80% vaccinated.

Loving everything about this freedom convoy

The idiot fringe riding to Ottawa, screaming freedom, all the while defacing Terry Fox's statue and parking and taking pisses on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Wake me up when the nutters get cold and tire of yelling into the void.

That's worse the media could find. I regret to inform you that Terry Fox's statue gets vandalized every single protest in Ottawa. For crying out loud, Hockey riots in Vancouver and Montreal the past decade have been way more violent with multiple police vehicles set alight and a wave of business destruction. But hey, no one cares now, it was just funny hockey fans. The convoy members are the real threat LOL. There is always a stupid or two in every single protest. So convenient to put them all in the same boat.

Ok, sure, sounds like a bunch of ya buts to me. I am not sure what the point of this protest is beyond the freedom to be selfish and afraid of needles.
