Canada Resource Wars: Post-Mortem

Day 4,736, 07:30 Published in Canada Canada by Mann551
With Resource Wars III now behind us, it's time to take a deep dive into what was happening behind the scenes here in Canada, some of the stats we had, what we ended up getting, etc.

At the beginning of resource wars, Canada wasn't yet sure what resources we were going for. We knew we wanted 100% weapons bonus, but were we also going for 100% housing or 100% food? Or were we going for high level resources for renting purposes. It was not until about 1 week into the event that we finally decided that we would be going for 100% weapons bonus, with an extra rubber, the highest value food resources (deer and grain) to keep food producers at home and happy, and also the highest value of housing resources (granite, limestone).

4 days into the event, we were the first in the world to acquire saltpeter, a rare weapons resource. 5 days later we acquired aluminum. It was at this point that we hit a very long and hard losing streak. The prospects for Canada coming out of the resource wars well became very dim. We had 19 resource attempt failures in a row. It was during this time, as resource wars passed the halfway point, that we reached out to our friends in Romania to see if they could help us to achieve the resources we were looking for. in exchange, we swapped out limestone to be able to acquire neodymium so that Romania could enjoy a 100% aircraft bonus.

We began to have success not long after, though most of that success was still from ourselves. We were able to acquire Rubber, a very rare weapons resource, with the help of Israel and Romania. This broke our losing streak, and renewed our spirits. We then acquired Neodymium, and our prospects for success in resource wars went from dire to acceptable. After a bit more work we acquired grain, and deer shortly thereafter. During that time we also acquired iron. Not long after this, we were able to fight our way to oil, the final resource needed for 100% weapons production. We only had 2 resources left on our list to get. A second rubber and granite. We had just under a week left to achieve this.

The final rubber came available on Day 4,733. We knew it would be a bloodbath to try and acquire. However, we were not expecting sabotages at 3 different instances from Croatia. It was costly to attempt this resource (early estimates were about 8,000 energy bars and 2 million cc), but we ended up nearly being lined up for it anyway. However, we missed it. At this point, we began switching out resources we could no longer achieve for lower level resources just to ensure we had a full slate of resources coming out of resource wars.

We achieved Granite in the end, and seeing that the resources were ending, we turned all of the walls in all our open battles for Canada, we gained points quickly and put all remaining resources on our allocation list. In the end, we were able to get Cobalt, a rare resource in the aircraft industry considered to be a wildcard.

Overall we achieved all 10 resources. Our bonuses within our cores will be as follows: 100% weapons; 55% food; 55% aircraft; and 30% housing

Each resource took on average 2 hours of undivided focus. Canada attempted resources a total of 47 times. This adds up to approximately 94 hours altogether with attempted resources. However, that would be if a single person was going after each one. That was not often the case. Each resource attempt typically had 2-4 people coordinating together to acquire the resource, which makes for a grand total of 450 hours of undivided attention spent in trying to acquire resources for Canada. This is the equivalent of 18 days and 18 hours of non stop focus.

Obviously this couldn't have been achieved without some great help, and here is where they will be listed. I encourage you to read through them all, send each of them a personal private message thanking them for their hard work in helping us get to where we are today.

The Credits

A huge thank you to Exalted Druid for helping coordinate and for maintaining all divisions at the beginning of Resource Wars III until the rest of us could get Maverick Packs. Big thanks also goes to Blue Bird and Mary Chan, who were every evening on discord and burning energy bars fighting for Canada. Thanks also goes out to TemujinBC, Thedillpickl, Mr. A. Smith, Kippers, and TheCanadianPunk. A thank you must also go out to our Romanian friends, Fr3edom, Turturica, VampireA, Dynamite, Praz, and P R E D A T H O R who's help in holding walls in TW's and assisting in lining up oldest battles was invaluable. Thanks also to TheEnlightenedNaor who helped us mightily in achieving our Rubber by assisting with math and wall pushes while most of Canada was sleeping. Thanks also to our friends and allies in Estonia, Cuba, Israel, Portugal, Lithuania, Italy, Iran, and Netherlands, who helped us fight off sabotages.
