A Brave New World

"A Step Not Taken Leaves No Track On The Path"

As I take my first steps into this new world of eRepublik it reminds me of a story. It is a tale that was once passed down from ancient times through generations, almost lost in time and only few people now know. A simple story of courage and exploration that I shall now pass onto the reader to take from it what they will.

There once existed a society of rocks, funnily enough, intelligible rocks and each and every one of these rocks were perfectly round. If you would feel one, you would say there were no edges, no protrusions or abnormalities. These rocks sat in place, never moving. Not even an inch. These rocks enjoyed this simple existence and that was what their conversations would normally consist of, whenever they would rarely have one. Complimenting each other on how perfectly round they were and how they stood so very still. Yes, so perfectly still.

However, there sat one rock, Rocky, that was quieter than the others. And he merely sat there in there silence pondering his own existence. His roundness. His stillness. And he sat there unperturbed for the longest time until a faint rumble came from the ground and it stopped his thinking of roundness and stillness. He asked around, the other rocks, whether they had felt it, but no answer, only the regular conversations of their roundness and stillness.

Rocky felt odd for he had never thought of anything else before. But now, now there was something else, a rumble that had thrown his mind awry. He looked around and about and saw something in the distance and begun to strain himself as he tried to focus in on it. Then all of a sudden he moved, very slightly, but he moved. The rock begun to grow afraid because this is something that never happened before.

His focused was brought back onto the object in the distance and he decided he must keep 'moving'. As he strained more and more, he steadily grew in pace. At the behest of his movement, his perfect round shape began to fade. Edges began to form. Points started to protrude. His body began to mold itself to the terrain around him and he moved faster and faster.

This transformation went on for some time and his body became less identifiable to himself. Appendages began to grow on himself. Legs began to form from the bottom, striding and pushing him forward. Arms began to grow as he swung them back and forth. A head started to form, increasing in size as his thoughts on the world around him expanded. Rocky began to take in the world around him as he moved forward, one step at a time. He realized that this Brave New World that was accessible was always around him, but he had never realized it.

When he had finally reached the object in the distance, he stared at it. A smile came upon his face as he gazed in pride at what he had accomplished. And after his short moment of reflection he looked around once more and continued moving, never looking back.

"A Story Untold Helps No One, But A Story Told Teaches Everyone."

The object in the story is whatever you wish it to be. A goal, a dream, a desire. But you can't reach that point unless you're willing to take that first step. And that is what I am doing here. Taking my first step into something that I hope I will enjoy and prosper from.
