[CP] Congress Gold & International Progress

Day 1,632, 00:20 Published in Canada Canada by Sperry

Dum Spiro Spero

Many an article these past few days! Today quite a few things have happened in Canadian affairs. And to the notion that we don't need daily articles: true, to know major news pieces, daily articles are unnecessary. But for Canada to have a narrative to follow, for us to have an understanding of the growth of ideas, regular articles can keep the semi-active informed at little cost. So let's get to what's new in the world.

Love From Congress & Fritzhill

Yesterday I released an article for the Fritzhill Fund. 146 people submitted their names for the draw for Fritzhill's massive $100K+ giveaway. The gifts will be given out in the morning to the 100 lucky winners, who will be thanked for their patience and patriotism. I will enjoy being able to work in my personal companies without overflowing my Storage holds once more!

Congress and the Executive have passed a motion on the forums to make use of the ongoing 44% Gold Offer. Just after 10pm tonight, Minister of Finance Macubex moved the proposal to an ingame vote to donate 200 Gold to the Canadian Ministry of Finance. This gold will be given out to 20 Canadians - 10 gold apiece - to help them upgrade their Training Centres during this offer from Plato. Congress recognizes the limitations of Game Mechanics, and the legislation that they have approved operates within these limitations to best serve Canadian interests. I applaud Congress for getting this put through the house so quickly.

Hungary Can't Into Repetition

For most of today Canada was directed to fight - not in one of our own RWs - but in the South East of England. Here the Hungarians were attacking the French. Hungary's been in France for a number of days now, but this was the first move over the channel for the Huns in quite some time. Some folks chalk this up to a Hungarian slicing of France's resource bonuses in Britain. True, but it also would have given us a border with Hungary.

Old players among us (that is, most of you) will remember the invasions of 2009 and 2011, which started the same way. Certainly, a war with Hungary is direct, immediate, benefits Canadians, and helps our allies. But y'all should know that it comes with the risk of invasion. What with the Huns being quite strong, and all. For the moment the Hungarians have been defeated by the French. Snicker gleefully, it's hilarious. If we re-eneter a border scenario with the Hungarians, be prepared for one hell of a fight. It will certainly be a good one. But the Huns are going to have to get their act together if they want that to happen.

The Order of Orders

Earlier today we had a snafoo with communications between MUs and the Ministry of Defence. We knew where we wanted Canadians, but some of the folks who hold the DO buttons in hand were out for a while (work, lives, etc) and weren't able to adjust our orders to newer settings. While frustrating, the issue was temporary and came at a time that was not critical. To address this issue we have fast-tracked our PM conversation setup to get the quick-response MUs on board while we wait for some stragglers to fall into rank. Major kudos goes to the MUs who have been steadfast and organized throughout, as well as VP Eric Last for making good use of a communication method established by past CPs.

Britain, Briefly

We are moving to restore our NE with Britain that was temporarily interrupted by their lack of regions. We will acquire 1-3 regions on top of what we already have, depending on how much they succeed against the France and then fail against us. This is, once again, a temporary measure and not a desire for long-term war. Britain and I have better things to do than urinate on each other's laundry. As much as some of us may enjoy that.

Friends in High Places

Tonight I wrote a letter. It was an open letter, addressed to every CP and MoFA within the TEDEN network. It's also public access so that they can pass the letter on to their respective Cabinets and Congresses. Simply put, the letter outlines Canada's regret over our past behaviour, and our aims for the future. This is an act in humility and a necessary step toward rebuilding our reputation on the world stage. Tomorrow we will be taking part in the regular EDEN Summit. There are a number of things on the agenda, many of which thrill me and quite possibly bore everyone else (except Pluggers, who is keen). In moments like this, we should not joke about skipping meetings just because we can scrape by with our 13 regions. We should stand tall - as tall as our allies expect us to, and taller - so that we can achieve far greater things. Canada did not dominate under its former Giants by being selfish, greedy, or petty. And while some Canadians have been selfish, greedy, and petty, we will not tolerate the filth any further.

This administration is determined to improve Canada's international standing so that we can build strong relationships with more than just a smattering of nations. We're interested in bigger and better things for eCanada than the Oil of England. Small steps beget larger steps, and so we move forward today.
