What Happened In Congress + DF on the Report

Day 838, 14:20 Published in USA USA by Desertfalcon

As most of you noticed congress tried to ram a massive tax overhaul through today that would've raised income taxes to 25% and the food VAT to 50%. The forum votes were very close however when it came time for the ingame vote many of those who didn't vote on the forum sided with the opposition, and after the public backlash I wouldn't of been surprised if a few people switched sides. This led to the defeat of many of the proposals. Many Americans are currently angry with congress, not because of the tax hikes necessarily, but because of the secrecy in which they were handled. While I was never in support of these bills I must take some of the blame as I failed to speak up and said that this should be public knowledge. I was simply compiling with the will of congress and higher ups who had asked for us not to "leak" information, stating that it was on a hidden board for a reason. I now realize that this was a mistake and for that I apologize to the eAmerican people and I will be going over the rational congress had for the tax hikes here.

Awhile ago congress noticed that we were having trouble balancing our budget when we had to pay the rent for Karnataka. Contrary to public belief the region doesn't pay for itself but we need to hold onto the region to keep it out of Indonesian hands. To find a solution it was proposed that we increase our already high income taxes, a few people ran the numbers and found that 22-23% income taxes across the board would allow us to sustain paying the rent, so naturally congress voted to increase the income tax to 25%. I voted against this proposal since it was both above what was necessary and an insanely high rate compared to other countries (we already some of the highest income tax rates in the world at 20😵. I also felt it was unfair to make it so foreign companies who sell on our markets are able to pay less taxes then domestic companies who are already struggling.

As for the VAT increase I voted no on that simply because it was just outrageous. Food will be becoming more of a necessity once the admins make it so you can only damage lost during fighting. This means that not only will you be forced to buy more expensive food to maintain your wellness, but you will have to pay 38% more for it compared to what your paying now. For me the title of the proposal "Let's fleece the little buggers" says it all. The primary justification for the fleecing, the extra revenue the government would receive of course. It seems that some in congress see those who they represent as ATM machines who they can always take money from. Worst of all they don't even feel the need to make these proposals public to those who they are attempting to fleece. I won't say much more since I expect the rest of congress will soon agree that this needs to be made public so that American citizens can make their own decisions regarding it.

Now that I'm done ranting I would like to say that last week I was featured as a guest on the Report. If anyone has an hour to kill and would like to hear it it can be found here.
