Ukraine: Nervousness On The Steepe

Day 154, 14:53 Published in USA USA by Desertfalcon

Kiev, Ukraine- The rolling hills of the steepe appear peaceful and calm but they are misleading. For the past six months Ukraine was able to maintain a peaceful relation with the world. Their population was small enough to not start anything or anger other people and their economy was always doing well with little need for outside help.

Times have changed. Looking south a worry may be developing in the minds of many Ukrainians, Romania. With the elimination of India and Finland, Ukraine became the second weakest country not involved in a war militarily with a meager strength of 146. On the southern side of the border Romania holds the number six spot in terms of military strength with 4,459.

At the moment there is no serious talk of war between the two nations but if the Romanian president moves for war he will get it as every war proposal so far has been approved by excessive margins. The president claims to be against an invasion and there no reason to doubt his words other then the fact that most wars so far have come as a surprise to most. Romania might just not see Ukraine as something worth taking violently. Ukraine has thirteen regions yet only a population of 43, thats a bit more then three per region. An invasion would be time consuming and in that time Ukraine might be able to rack foreign support, an unlikely event but one that could cost the Romanians dearly.

Today Romania signed a mutual protection pact with Canada who they have decided to align with in the North American War which may keep their military occupied. All though Romania is allied with Canada they will not be able to fight directly from their homeland and all their support must come from citizens moving to Canada and fighting under the Canadian flag. This decrease in Romania's military size may actually save Ukraine from invasion if only for a few days or weeks.

The days of push over wars may be coming to an end soon as the weaker nations and leaders get eliminated wars will soon become wars of attrition lasting much longer and having a larger affect on the economy. Ukraine may very well be the last one of these standing, Thailand is in a similar vote with the threat of an Indonesian invasion but Indonesia is currently neutral in the North America War so they wont be too occupied. In a departure from the normality of other wars a weak nation may actually be saved by the conflict with the U.S. and Canada for once.
