Revitalizing the OMS [Stage one]

A few days ago I declared that I'm Not Done Yet.

I detailed my belief that the concept of an Office of Milita Support is, in today's eRepublik where the ONLY metric that means anything any more is DAMAGE, still a great idea.

I declared my candidacy for Congress with the intent to begin work on a whole new vision for OMS.

And enough citizens responded with their votes. I was elected to Congress without any mobile vote support from the Federalist Party.

So first, thank you.

Now on to the business at hand.

My first step will be to build a Political Action Committee of Congressmen and laymen who will aid me in drafting a legislation that stands the best chance at accomplishing our goals. I will be personally inviting several people to work with me. I will also consider applications via PM from any who are interested.

Please keep in mind that the goal here is to work within Congress AND to work with the Executive Branch to forge an OMS which can be popularly agreed upon.

OMS is a strange animal in that its funding is controlled by Congress while its direct oversight is controlled by the Executive. Everyone needs to be on board.

In a few days, I will be publishing a skeleton of what the new OMS would look like. I want to keep the public well informed about our direction. This will also invite the creative energy of our populace which has proven time and again to yield many diamonds in some significant rough.

I want to reiterate a point that was draw out in the comments thread of my announcement article.

A question was raised about my involvement in a project to revitalize the OMS. As the Commanding Officer of Easy Company, the most successful private Milita in eUSA, it is sensible to at least ask, "is there a double agenda?" Am I trustworthy to serve eUSA in this endeavor, or am I after personal/party/EZC gain?

I agree that this question is a good enough one to need to be asked.

All I can do is vow to you that I have zero personal interest, zero interest in benefiting my Party, and zero interest in benefiting Easy Company in this endeavor. I have one agenda here. To recreate the Office of Militia Support for the benefit of:

1: eUSA and our potential to do damage,
2: Private Military Units and their potential to grow successfully,
3: Individual Citizens of eUSA and their access to higher rank.

In response to the question, "Why not just direct everyone into the United States Armed Forces?", another good question, I have a very concise answer:

Not everyone wants to be in the National Military.

What I have learned as CO of Easy Company is that there is a rugged individualism that particularly exists among eRepublik gamers. For some, this individualism gets expressed by joining the official Military of the eUSA. Perhaps this mirrors real life interests or dreams, perhaps it indicates the desire for patriotism... but whatever the reason, joining the official Military units of the eUSA is a VERY GOOD THING.

But let's face it. MANY people enjoy a gaming atmosphere which is decidedly different than what can be provided by the USAF. This is not a superior gaming atmosphere. It is different.

By redesigning the Office of Militia Support, I believe our Government can take advantage of that rugged spirit of individualism and parlay it into increased battle damage.

I will continue to lead Easy Company and daily work towards making it even moreso the BEST DAMNED MILITIA IN THE COUNTRY bar none.

But as your congressman, I will also work toward helping to make YOUR private militia finer than ever.
