Presidential Elections

Day 861, 11:22 Published in Belgium Belgium by eBelgian Foreign Affairs

In this article we will give some information about the presidential elections (mostly called prime minister elections in eBelgium) and the government.

Like in every good democracy we in eBelgium have a separation of powers, there is the legislative power and the executive power. The legislative power is the congress, they can vote laws, adjust taxes, control the money in the national treasury etc. The executive power is the government. They are the people that, as their name says, execute the laws. But they do much more. Each member of the government has their own specialty, for example the minister of defense equips the army and make sure they get their orders, the minister of home affairs gives help to people with low wellness and communicates to the people etc.

You cannot vote directly for the government, you can only vote for the president/prime minister. When a president/prime minister is elected he/she chooses the people in the government. It is the job of the president/prime minister to choose competent people and the congress can demand the resignation of a member of the government at any time. The president/prime minister can choose how many people there are in the government and what functions they have. There is no fixed number of posts, above that the ministers can choose a team to help them and divide the tasks. This is a great way to gain government experience.

So what are you citizens going to vote for on April the fifth? You are going to vote to decide who is the president/prime minister, and by that indirectly who will be in the government for the next month because the president/prime minister decides that.
