President Evil - Getting Work Done

Day 1,926, 23:44 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Blue And Evil

I’m going to make two statements. At first, they seem contradictory, but I’m writing today to convince you they’re not.

The first is that I dislike politics.

The second is I intend to be the next President of the eUK.

Politics is boring. You know it, I know it. Politics is a group of people who all essentially believe the same thing should be done, but instead of doing it, they spend their time taking turns to see who can shout the loudest. And in eRepublik, it’s even worse, it’s just devolved into a Who-Has-The-Most-Virtual-Friends contest.

I’ve never understood people who talk about doing things, instead of doing things. Maybe that’s just a consequence of me spending the last 5 years of my life doing various Engineering degrees, but if something needs to be done, I just do it. If something isn’t good enough, I make it better, which is what I’ve been doing in eRep for a long time now, it’s what I’m currently doing as Minister of Defence, and it’s what I intend to do as Country President.

Last year, I spent 5 months running the NHS, organising mentors for new players, and helping them. I gave a helping hand to literally hundreds of new players entering the eUK, which last month led to a great moment of personal pride, when I looked at the three biggest candidates for CP - Richard Feist, 5butjam and Alphabethis - and remembered helping out each of them when they first came to the game. My little ducklings, look how you’ve grown.

Last month, I saw the MoD’s presence was not all it could be. I saw that information was not coming to the public - at least, not as much as I would have liked, so I decided to do something about it. I applied for, and was selected to be, MoD in both Richard’s and butjam’s cabinets. I set about fixing what I saw as a neglected resource for the nation, and now, not only will do you see constant and up-to-date orders in the media - as well as on the forums, on IRC, and directly in your Commander’s and Captain’s inbox - but also information. I felt it wasn’t good enough to just shout “FIGHT HERE!”, so I also explained why.

And it’s these kind of things I want to bring to the role of President. Unlike some in the past, my work will not stop on the 6th when the votes are counted. I want to bring communication from all branches of the government to the fore, because maybe if we realised how great Britain can be, we’d might stop trying to tear each other apart.* I want my Domestic Ministers to regularly publish guides for new players, since they’re joining all the time, you know. I want my Foreign Ministers to keep the public filled in on happenings with TWO and around the world. I want my Defence Ministers to carry on my work, and keep our fighters informed about our wars - both our own, and our allies.

And most of all, I want you to support me for Country President, so all this can be achieved.

*I know. That won’t happen. A man can dream, though. A man can dream.
