Michigan: A production bonus or a Vietnam?

Good Morning Canada,

Looking at Michigan, one can only be happy about the production bonus we have been enjoying in recent days. But is this all that there is to it? From my point of view lately, it has been way more trouble than what it is really worth.

Since I recall, Michigan was the only US region we really wanted to keep, and it has been under constant RW ever since we grabbed it. Days after days it's been a torn in our side. I saw Canadians fighter laying downs millions of dmg just to barely secure it last time. This kind of expense is really not profitable. If that damage could have been used elsewhere, it might have made quite a difference somewhere else. And I'm not even talking about the damage used against us by Americans Soldiers. I saw americans tanks spraying more than 6 million damage, and for what? A region that doesn't give them anything more.

Should we lose the region, I would pin it on a few factors. I believe misplaced patriotism is one of those. I'm in a pretty big American Military Unit and not an hour goes by without seeing people asking to take back michigan, NOT AN HOUR!!!! We had to explain it to everyone on a daily basis. The veterans (in my unit) we're following orders and understood the reason for a swap, but it was mostly the newcomers that we had to explain it. What I don't understand however, is that some veteran tanks are fighting hard agaisnt us. I have a solution for this matter, but I will get on with it later on. Needless to say, there will probably always be nationalistic players who are not playing for the team and only wan their own country to achieve victory, which is absolutely idiotic in a global game like erepublik. Helping your allies is actually one of the best way to achieve victory.

Another possibility is ennemy sabotage with the intent of undermining Canadian economy and thus, capacity to wage war. This is mostly done by foreign agents. But at this time, I think it's only a minor factor, as the polish haven't been our main concern. Heck, I think TEDEN tanks did more dmg for the US than the ONE fighters. Which lead us to ask why they would travel all the way up here to liberate a region from us... WHILE THERE IS PLENTY OF OTHER PLACE TO REALLY LIBERATE!!! Pardon me this burst of anger, but I find myself puzzled in the face of this, as there is possibly very few explanations for this type of behavior.

And finally, there is the issue of Communication. That one can either fall down on the Canadians or the Americans. Either it was complacency, incompetence or simply the lack of experience in such situation that is leading us here today. The fact that veteran players are not aware of this is costing us millions of dmg in every round. I'm not going to start pointing fingers as it is, I haven't been active enought to do so. But let me go on ahead with a few recommendations of my own. Next time we end up having a swap, a rent or simply a generous territory donation, make sure that you publish it widely in the media. On a weekly basis all the better. Make sure that they do the same in the other country. And one of the marvelous thing about MU this day is how they can directly interact with their soldier. If every MU leader in the US had passed a little note to their soldier on a bi daily basis, we wouldn't be where we are right now. It is also important that MU leaders are kept accountable for their soldiers. It should be their duty to bring back their troops into the fold.

I think that a region swap is possible, but there is a lot more work to be done about it than one could guess. And if this work is not being done, you are heading straight to disaster, or another unprofitable venture. The way it is right now, it's better off that Michigan finally gets back to the US because it's a damage drain for both side. It pains me to admit it, but let's be frank, the cons greatly outweight the pro's.

I hope next time things will be better.
