How Can Plato Earn More by Enliving the Economy

Day 3,597, 02:47 Published in Croatia North Korea by William Thomas Riker

Have you noticed how certain visa players advertise packs for eRepublik currency, and that is great for people who don't want to spend RL money, but have plenty of currency? But have you ever asked yourselves why would visa players go out of their way and help others? After all, those packs were designed to give the visa players an advantage over the rest of us. Seems kinda counterintuitive. Let's break it down.

Most of the packs can only be bought once in a month, or even rarer. But following packs can be bought in any quantities, and donated to others:

Current going price ratio is 5€=75kCC. Current gold to currency ratio is 1:475. Visa player can sell a pack, and over a period of time convert 75kCC into ≈158 gold. So a visa player bought 158 gold for 5€. Gold to euro ratio is greater than 30:1.

Now, let's check ingame gold purchase options. Best value is 300 gold for 100€. Let's throw in the occasional "get 50% more gold" offer: 450 gold for 100€. Gold to euro ratio is 4.5:1.

Do you see now why visa players prefer to buy and sell packs instead of simply buying gold? So, it is a safe bet to say visa players buy surplus packs instead of gold. So why keep the "buy gold" option? Well, visa players can't find that many potential pack buyers. But that could change.

In my last article, eRepublik Needs a New Deal, Not New Updates, I boldly proposed bringing back local currency, among other things. My prediction is: since global currency would be divided in 74* local ones, their prices in gold would chnage, mostly grow. Meaning: gold prices would fall, maybe even plummet depending on the currency. For example, countries that have low percentage of players winning TP and FF medals would have less currency flowing around, and its price would grow compared to gold. Some currencies would become scarce, at least before individual countries get the chance to print them in larger quantities.
*Small countries could be given a choice to keep currency from one of major powers, just like in RL, to prevent banktrupcy.

Visa players don't care about the gold-currency ratio, as long as they get 30 gold for a euro. Most of them use gold to buy Energy Bars in order to keep winning medals. By reintroducing local currencies and forcing countries to print them to keep their economies up and running, we could effectively lower the price of gold payed in local currencies. Visa players would be forced to lower pack prices in currency to the same level (still earning the same amoung of golg, though).

Aside from actually bringing a part of economic module to life, and keeping people more interested in playing it, there is one major point: more people would be able to buy packs with currency from visa players. Even more so if they are actually skilled and can earn more in money exchange. Visa players wouldn't miss the opportunity to accomodate the growing need (for now, they still need more gold than they can make selling packs, that is why the option to buy gold still exists), so they ould buy more packs, which, in turn, means more profit for Plato.

You get a pack! You get a pack! Eeeeverbody gets a pack!

And cherry on the top: remember economy wars and sabotages? I'll stop writing here, I will just tell you that the existence of local currencies will enable those.

Do you, eRepublik Community have the guts for the great unknown?

I'm sure if enough people lobbied like this, Plato would agree.

Let's summarize:
- bring back local currencies,
- price of gold falls,
- more people buy packs,
- visa players get more gold,
- Plato gets more euros,
- part of economy jumps into existence,
- players able to earn money via exchange
- economy wars and sabotages become relevant again
- more people have fun due to packs, economy, earnings and sabotages.

I know I would be the first in line to regularly buy packs if I could afford them. Not to mention I came here mostly because of the past economy module.

Live long and prosper!
