Going Rampant in America

Day 1,582, 12:23 Published in USA United Kingdom by Henry Hank Moody

This story is the start of another chapter in the Rampant story. I hope you like it. Not much happens this time but the next part will be back to the blood, guts and violence we all like.

The pounding surf was music to Axeell’s ears as he hunkered down at the stern of the transport, the sea spray already soaked through to his skin and the cold Atlantic water and driving rain had numbed him to the core.

“Are we nearly there Captain?” He muttered through the harsh clattering of his teeth.

“My god soldier your like a bloody child,” replied Ranflax, a gaping smile strangely lacking in teeth greeted the weary eyes of Axeell, “But not to worry I’d say another few minutes and we’ll be beached.” Turning to the rest of the Rampant Unit Captain Ranflax drew in a deep breath and bellowed in his best parade ground voice. “All right ladies on your sorry feet. This isn’t a day trip you know. Get down the ramp and get ready to disembark.”
As the tired and shivering limbs set to work the members of Rampant rose slowly to their feet, grabbed their heavy backpacks, readied their weapons and shuffled along the heaving deck to the ramp.

“Officer on deck,” roared Ranflax and all along the deck years of discipline and rigorous training washed away the tiredness and every man, woman and Gilmour stood rigidly to attention.

“At ease boys and girls,” laughed Woolfie as he stepped out from the nicely warm and dry cockpit. “The captain says we should make landfall in less than a minute captain. Get the men up through the bunkers as quickly as you can.”

“Yes sir,” snapped Ranflax.

“Carry on Captain.”

“Very good sir. Alright ladies you heard the General. We’ll hit the beach in less than a minute. As soon as that ramp hits the sand I want you off this vessel and across the beach. Do you understand me?”

“Yes sir.” Came the roaring affirmative.

“What do you think of this move then Jen?” Axeell whispered to his neighbour.

“Gotta love it Axeell. Bit of excitement,” replied JMO as she struggled to balance the weight of her backpack.

With a soft thunk the transporter came to a soft rest on the beach and the ramp immediately fell to the sand. As one the Rampant soldiers jogged down the ramp onto the beach and as one they rippled up the beach and crested the bunkers. As one they all halted, spread into a line and smiled.

Below them stretched the magnificent American country. Off to their left was the vast metropolitan city of Miami and in front and to the right was a limitless marshland filled with alligators and all manner of wildlife.

“Glad to see you all made it ok.” The voice was barely a whisper and before the Rampant men and women could determine the origin Smack detached himself from his hiding place and trotted up to Woolfie, who stood beaming at his old friend.

“Good to see you again Smack.”

“You too Woolfie, you old horn dog you. How you been?”

“Been better. Me and the lads thank you for the help you’ve given us.”
“My pleasure old bean. I’ve set you and your men up with an old abandoned Army base just north of Orlando. I don’t suppose there’s any chance you have room for one more do you?”

“Of course. The Rampant Rabbits always have room for an old friend,” turning to his patiently waiting, and now rather amused, comrades Woofie beckoned them onwards. Come on guys let’s go meet our new home.”

As if his words had some prophetic meaning the rain clouds immediately dissipated, giving way to another glorious Florida sunshine.

Yes indeed. Rampant would have a good home in the eUSA.
