A Look Back on Congress + Desertfalcon For Missouri

*This isn't a war article but its short*

Today is the last day of my first congressional term as a Federalist and I have to say congress just isn't what it used to be. While there have always been issues with people having huge egos in congress things have just gotten worse over the past few months seeing as congress is now elected by the party presidents rather than the people. Outside of the fortress states there is such a low voter turnout that party presidents can often just move three people in to a state to vote for their candidate in order to win. This makes it near impossible for people to be accountable of their congressional leaders who don't seem to care that much about those who they represent. While this is an unavoidable result of the fortress system it is an unfortunate one.

One of the things that stood out to me the most was the tax debate. Back in the early part of my term congress learned that in order to afford to pay the rent for Karnataka we would need to raise income taxes to 22%, so naturally congress wanted to raise income taxes to 25% and not let the public know of the debate. Now this back when wages were lower and it seemed the mood in congress was that citizens should be taxed so much that they could barely afford food. This became much more evident when a new proposal titled "Lets fleece the little buggers", which would've raised the VAT (or sales tax) on food to 50%, was introduced to congress. Both of these bills passed the congressional forum vote but were killed during the in game vote. Congress later agreed on a compromise that raised income tax a little but dropped the VAT to compensate for it, this was probably the best thing congress managed to do the whole month. Then there were the citizenship mishaps with people such as Zoli, Glados, and Ajay Bruno gaining American citizenship which also hurt congress's image.

Over the past month I have done the best to make my vote a vote for the people and not a vote for the government. I voted no on all the tax hikes except the compromise proposed by Sydiot. I've also been active in most congressional discussions and have chaired the military subcommittee. Still I've learned that even though I've done the best to represent my constituents the next election is still just going to come down which party can move the most voters in to vote for their candidate so tommorows "vote" could go either way. Regardless I would like to thank the state of Missouri for allowing me to represent them and I hope I get the chance to do it again.
