[vCP] Domestics: A New Way Forward

Day 2,246, 15:00 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Addaway
Well Hello there.

Over the past few weeks, the Domestic ministries (Home Affairs and its sub-ministries) have come under criticism from some people in the eUK for being irrelevant, outdated and just unnceccasry. In some ways, I get that point of view. The same old tried and tested methods had been used for months, and the MoHA's focus had lost sight of the focus of eUK society.

This month, the Domestic ministries have started a long overdue process of reform to their objectives, focus and methods to create a MoHA that is both more effective, and more relevant to the needs of the people.

Fundamentally, eRepublik is a war game. The Political and Economic modules have been gutted by the admins, turning party politics into electing faceless lists of players with zero accountability and the economy a simplified shallow shell of its former self. As well as this, the slow decline of player counts in the game has seen the media module dwindle, and the social side of the game dwindle in importance.

No, what is left now is a war game. A game where countries compete to control the most regions and bonuses, to accumulate the most country power and become an 'Empire'. And so, naturally the traditional role of the domestic ministries has dwindled in importance, with Defence and Foreign Affairs now more vital to the nation than Home Affairs.

However, it is still my opinion that Domestics has a role to play in eUK government and society. Firstly, it provides a ministry which provides probably the best access point to government for new players, as deputy ministers and apprentices abound for players looking to gain experience. The second way in which the domestic ministry remains fundamentally relevant is through a renewed focus on education.

Education is the only essential role that the Domestic ministries now perform, with it being vital that young citizens are clued up on the knowledge they need to succeed in this new, war-focused game that we inhabit.
This month is seeing reforms to the way we do Education, with Education now a full Government Ministry with its own newspaper and a trebling of staff on it from last term. The MoEd's articles will be more focused on things to do with the military module, with the first articles this month on Training Ground loans and the Freedom Fighter medal, examples of this. In addition to this, the MoEd will begin running a comprehensive mentoring program for all young citizens that sign up to the NHS and request a mentor.

This month the focus is on developing a new style of education which will provide a better foundation for young players, to prepare the eUK’s soldiers of the future, ideally with the kind of low-division, high strength model that the eUK so badly needs more of.

Cheers,

Vice President (Domestic Affairs)
