First off, lets have a look at what the Department of Defense actually is in Real Life USA.

The Department of Defense is the Executive Department of the Government of the United States of America charged with coordinating and supervising all agencies of the government concerned directly with national security and the United States armed forces.

The Department, headed by the Secretary of Defense, has three subordinate military departments: the Department of the Army, the Department of the Navy, and the Department of the Air Force.

The Secretary of Defense, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, is the head of the Department of Defense. He is the principal defense policy advisor to the President, and has authority, direction and control over the Department of Defense.

Now that we got that out of our way, it`s time to see how our own DoD operates. And who better to do that than the Secretary of Defense? Following, a short interview with emdoublegee.

(After an exchange of pleasantries, including emdoublegee`s admittance of his love for the DoE, we jump right into the matter at hand).

How would you describe the DoD, and what does it actually do?

The Department of Defense is the eUSA's military leadership. We help the President with war planning and then making sure the MU's and the American people get the most up to date and correct orders on where damage is needed. We keep in touch with all of the eUSAF MU's to make sure they are using the funds granted them in a correct and efficient manner, to maximize America's tax dollars.

You say "we", this means there`s more to the DoD than just you. It has a structure, just like RL?

Absolutely, there is no way I can do all of this on my own

Can you tell me in short what each specializes in?

The staff members interface with the MU commanders, me and my deputy handle the overall running of the DoD, and OMS Director handles our OMS (Military Funding).

You said you help the President with war planning, how much influence does the DoD`s input have?

The DoD is involved in the war planning, but there are other players outside of the DoD that have extensive eWar experience that make a lot of the strategies. We are just an advisor on that, and then shoot the orders out to the MU's and the American Public.

Apart from working with the President, what departments do you work with more often?

I'd say the department we work most with is the state department. DoD and Foreign Affairs go hand in hand, and we have to be sure we're putting out the right orders based on the current state of relations with other countries.

Well, it seems to me that we have touched on the important bits of what the DoD is and does. In conclusion, thank you for your time and patience.

My pleasure, anything I can do to help out the DoE and keep the eAmerican People informed!
