Reagan Stands With Israel Against Terrorism

Day 5,802, 10:39 Published in USA USA by Ronald Gipper Reagan

I am shocked and beyond horrified at the recent events in Israel, a day which is rightfully being compared to their 9/11. It shows that the threat of fundamentalist Islamist terrorism is sadly very much a clear and present danger. For those of you who think there is some justification or defense of this, you can go ahead and unfriend me. Such a view is so beyond the level of being sick and evil for me to even care to reason with. As I'm writing this article, at least 1000 people have been murdered in Israel by Hamas and other terrorists, and I'm hearing over 100 abducted. Killing and kidnapping random people indiscriminately to try to achieve a political goal is never okay. These thugs have no regard for human life or any basic level of morality. There are Arabs in Israel too. Surely some of them are among the dead.

How intelligence could have failed to this colossal level, or why one of the most dangerous borders on earth was not better secured and guarded I have no idea. It is a maddening and completely unacceptable failure to let your guard down and be complacent against this kind of threat. This shows unfortunately that the war on terror is still very much in action. Whether it's Russian terrorism against the Ukrainian people, or Islamists who hate the nation of Israel and what it stands for as a beacon of prosperity, freedom, and hope in a troubled region, this shows more than ever that we must be vigilant and relentless.

American citizens are also amongst the dead. I have little faith in our inept government, but hopefully even they see the need for direct and aggressive intervention on our part. Every abducted hostage must be rescued, and every single terrorist responsible should be hunted down and eliminated. Whatever action is needed to accomplish these objectives must be undertaken. The Jewish people have lived on this land for thousands of years, long before Palestinian Arabs. Despite this, a lot of sacrifice and effort has been made to achieve peace. I think it is fair to say that my current opinion has now become a very popular one. I have no interest in peace with anyone who would carry out or support these sickening actions, and I will not until the threat is permanently neutralized.

As someone whose entire maternal line is Jewish, and who has visited Israel, I am even more personally furious at the events that are transpiring. As a believer in the enduring and critical friendship between the United States and Israel, I know that more than ever it is essential that we do whatever is necessary to stand with the people of Israel against this terrorist threat. Any group, individual, or nation supporting or responsible for these crimes must be brought to justice. Let us pray for and do everything possible to support Israel and its people in these extraordinarily trying times. This can truly never be allowed to happen again.
