New Jersey, lend me your ears

Day 455, 08:52 Published in USA USA by Tiacha

I come here today, humbling asking for your vote to Congress on February 25th.

I am a Federalist running under the AAP ticket. I’d like to thank the AAP and Ian John Locke IV for the opportunity to run.

I’m a former Congresswoman, last elected in November. I did not seek reelection for a variety of different reasons, one being distraught with the nature of Congress, but mostly being bogged down with real life obligations. I did not want to be a Congresswoman who was not active. Now that I have more time, I ask for your vote.

My qualifications are there. I am a former Congresswoman, former Party President of the Federalist Party, a member of the eUS Marines (C-1 represent!) and the current Federalist Party Vice President. I am also the current Secretary of Education and this is my second term serving in this position. I have a good handle of how eRepublik works and am always willing to handle questions and concerns from new players and veterans alike.

Here are my positions on issues affecting the eAmerican government.
Taxes

I stand firmly against increasing taxes unless they are absolutely needed or extreme circumstances warrant a raise. That being said, I stand against the Economic Council’s proposal for a raise to a 25% income tax. I agree with Congresswoman HeadmistressTalia’s (Lib- MT) view that Congress should stand by its promise to lower taxes back to CTPA levels (10% income, 5% VAT). By having a hands off approach on the economy, we encourage American spending. If we take away money from the American people, they will be less likely to spend which will only hurt the economy. By lowering taxes back the CTPA levels, we will further encourage American spending which will help revitalize our economy. The emergency is over and its time for us to move on.

Paying back Bonds

I stand behind GoBucks’ plan for bond payback with a few modifications. I believe the US should move as quickly as possible in paying back its bonds, though, we should not rush the process. Americans will appreciate their investment a lot more if the government can keep normal tax levels in order to make their investment more meaningful. A stable economy where people can create businesses without having a fourth of the income taken away and they can spend freely will be more appreciated then having their bonds back right away.

Spending on Infrastructure

While spending money on DS’ and hospitals may be valuable, we need to have a certain sense of fiscal discipline when looking at where to place DS’ and hospitals and how often to buy them. That being said, until we bring out economy back to a stable level and the bonds are paid back, we should limit infrastructure spending to one Q4+ hospital and DS per month. So, that is in total 1 Q4+ hospital and 1Q4+ DS in a Congressional term for a total of two major purchases. DS and Hospitals are valuable in protecting our country, but we must be conservative in the way we spend until the treasury is back to a normal level.

That being said, though, Ian John Locke IV, the current Congressman from NJ has worked hard to ensure that NJ got a Q5 DS. I'd like to commend his work as NJ now has a Q5 DS. I shall try my hardest in the future to fight for a hospital improvement for NJ. Since NJ is one of the most populated states in the Union, as well as one with one of the most populated borders, it deserves the best protection the US can buy. I cannot promise anything, as Congress has a set list of placements and a budget, but, I will do all in my power to lobby for NJ interests.

For more information on the DS and Hospital placement list, see this thread on the eUS forums.

Transparency in Government

I believe that the normal citizen should be able to participate fully in the policy process. That being said, I fully support normal citizen’s ability to participate fully on the eUS Congressional forum. That being said, if a citizen wants to speak to me about any issue, my inbox is always open and I am willing to listen to any concerns.

Also, I plan on not only updating my votes through the spreadsheet on the forum, but updating via my newspaper and hopefully setting up a website to track my votes. That way, you'll always know my stance on issues that effect the eUS.

Participation in Foreign Entanglements

War can be good and bad when you look at it from different perspectives. War can help an economy in that it helps citizens gain wellness levels when they fight and heal at a hospital. I am all for war games that help citizen wellness levels which ultimately help our economy.

That being said, I fully support the current US fight to protect India's freedom. It is cause which is worthy. India is a freedom loving country who desires to maintain its independence. The US should do all in its power to protect India.

Yet, I am not afraid to vote against a war if it is offensive or imperialistic in nature. In November, I was one of three people in Congress who voted against Operation French Toast. I am not afraid of voting against proposals which I believe will ultimately hinder the reputation and economy of the eUS. I will try to use my best judgement in these matters.

Protecting American Interests

It will be my first duty, if elected as Congresswoman to NJ to protect American interests, in all that I do. If that means going against the majority, I will do so. If it means agreeing with the majority, I will do so. I can promise you one thing, I will always be honest with you, the people of eAmerica. The eAmerican people are my first passion and I hope to bring that passion to Congress yet again. New Jersey, I would be honored to have your vote.
