A semblance of democracy
Rico Suave
Yesterday we saw a complex but hastily performed public referendum put together by the president. The public were asked to vote on the diplomatic future of South Africa. Though seemingly democratic, this poll is actually an attempt to bypass the constitution of this nation.
A public referendum is a democratic instrument utilized by many RL countries. In order to ensure the democratic integrity of the referendum different measures has to be taken:
- The public must be informed on the subject of the referendum as well as the consequences of the various options. This information must be made available well before the actual voting takes place.
- The public must be informed as to where and when to vote and for how long the referendum will remain open.
The president took no such measures. In fact he failed to communicate the forms and options of the referendum with his cabinet or the congress. This is less than a week after the president approved of the cabinet as proposed by Mr Austerion.
Transparency of government and public debate are cornerstones of SAIL policy. Any and all decisions made by congress should first be publicly discussed in order to make the voice of the people heard in between elections. The actual voting should however be limited to congress unless we are dealing with a validated public referendum.
I urge the president to respect his cabinet, to respect the congress and to respect the democratic traditions of eSA by discussing the diplomatic future of South Africa with the ministers of foreign affairs and defence.
The South African Independence League will not stand for a charade intended to lend the CAU a semblance of democracy!

What constitution?
The form of government Stryker, the form of government.
Keanu I thought you were going to leave crying to another country?
Oh, I'm still party president I can't leave until someone takes it over.
Keanu are you able to change party names? If you can Ill take it and make an anarchist party, seeding off your failure.
Oh and your double commenting a lot, its quite unprofessional and immature.
I didn't see your comment until after I posted the first one, way to nitpick my failures, I am honored that I am in your thoughts that much.
Keanu your at the front of my mind. I think of you night and day, and silently plot removing you from the world. Lol.
I must disagree about the process of government. Generally speaking the president proposes and the congress votes(yes, I'm aware that the roles can be reversed and indeed often are..). Although not expressly stated I would say that logic dictates that congress also votes on the president's proposals of mutual protection pacts. I any case the president's "referendum" was biased and therefore without democratic integrity.
And guys.. How about taking your catfight somewhere else eh?
Blah, Blah, Blah.
All I see are a bunch of sore losers who call themselves SAIL.
Keanu so you left but now you think you can still complain because you live in USA? When we said leave that meens go away and shutup.
Don't you love how Keanu is pissed at all of SAIL because of what one member said?
That article which i wrote, has over 20 votes. It means it is on the list "top rated" Everyone from SA could see it. And I don't see other way to make that. It was enough 8 votes, so that article could be on list top rated.
