[Brexit] A Response

Day 3,620, 11:44 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by 10 Downing Street

It appears that this could be the most controversial decision I've made. Puts the old Latvian NE in the shade, that's for sure. So, some responses.

"This is about Latvia/being wiped/a tantrum"

No. I was always going to put this to Congress. Anyone who had taken the time to get to know me and my feelings on the matter would have realised this. Indeed, had we not been in such a situation, I would have done so far earlier in my term. If the UK wanted another boring term, they should have voted for AMD, who certainly wouldn't have done anything controversial. As it is, I proposed leaving Orion after it became clear that we had some form of agreement with both the USA and Ireland (and to a lesser extent Colombia). It has been clear for some time, at least to me, that we have been the black sheep of the Orion "family," and never really fit there. That is not to say that there is nothing in common, but when you consider that only a month ago we had MPPs with none of our fellow alliance members, it made me question further why we were there in the first place.

"This is about "changing sides""

No. If anyone has noticed the "Campaigns of the Day" which I have been setting, on the occasions when I could not set one for the UK it was for our allies outside Orion - Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Bulgaria. This is simply because all other members of Orion were embroiled in training wars, including one war between two of the members.

"This means that we suddenly dislike all the members of the alliance"

Far from it. As I have already stated in the article, my view was that Orion offered nothing that MPPs could not. The events leading up to the UK joining Orion saw us fighting for a traditional enemy, France, who have turned into one of our most staunch allies since.

"Don't you realise UK is going to be hated for this?"

Come on, what's new? Since BigAnt decided to "liberate" us from Wayne's "illegal" dictatorship, we've been on a downward spiral. An MTO, a constitutional dictatorship ruled by reams of meta legislation which hardly anyone could be bothered to read, and some truly terrible governments (including two impeachments, one of which gave the shiny buttons to "King" William, aka Ajay) have led to the UK being in a terrible situation. Regardless of whose "side" we are on, we will always be a whipping boy thanks to our unique set of borders which means no matter what we do, we are still liable to be under attack from some direction at some time or other. If anyone had noticed, I have not gone crawling around for allies to "fight hard" to free us. I have chosen a diplomatic route which seems to be paying dividends.

"You're setting Pacifica against Asteria/Orion."

No, seriously, we're not. Should Brexit happen, I really can't see much changing unless Pacifica and Asteria force them to change.

"You're setting up a move to Pacifica."

To be brutally honest, I'm not looking for any new alliance at the moment. I would like to remain "neutral" on our own terms, rather than have it dictated by an alliance, for a change. Set up a friendly TW. Sign a couple of new MPPs, as well as reinforce old ties. Fight for our allies where we can, and for ourselves for the kicks.

"You're burning all your bridges."

No, not really. Actually trying to build new ones. The only ones who will burn bridges are those naysayers and conspiracy theorists who believe I have done a "terrible thing" and "betrayed everyone". Nothing could be further from the truth. Aside from a couple of personal individual disagreements, I am more than happy with our allies.

"You've coerced/bribed/whatever Congress into doing your bidding."

Oh, please, you really don't know me if you think I'd stoop that low. Sure, I don't take politics quite so seriously as some, and don't see it all as a Matter of Life and Death, but I've laid down what I believe in my article and left it to Congress to make what I would hope to be an informed decision. I've made my feelings regarding our position in Orion perfectly clear in the past. We never really belonged and should have remained "neutral".

"I've wasted my packs/EBs/CC/hard earned money"

While I appreciate the efforts and thank you for fighting, at no time did I call for international assistance. I was confident that my Government could negotiate deals, however long it took, and that has proven fruitful, even though I haven't yet got 100% of what I wanted.
