Why are there so many DEADBEATS?
Dr. Badd
As much as I would like to say you can do without it, you can't....
In eLife and RL, you need to have money for food, weapons (if you actually want to level up quicker), and houses. The question I have you might ask is.....
How do I get it?
Well, when you first start your eLife, you work for low pay. Keeping your health up, as your skill gets higher, you can get higher paying jobs and even use enhancements (that also cost money) that will help you eventually get among the highest paying jobs. The problem is linear - and sounds like an endless cycle right?
So what do you do?
As you probably know by now....the Erepublik life looks like this....
YOU start on the BOTTOM!
Not everyone tries for the top - but alot of people bitch about the top.
If you strive to move up, you purchase a company and try to make more money to increase your skill to get more money.
Doing that....you see the dregs of the world. Whether they are trying to or not, you will get newbies, middle-of-the-road players, and even old players who screwed up their health, working for you with little to no wellness.
Now, I am all about lending a helping hand, but when you are trying to make a company or just simply break-even, they are not helping (even firing them as soon as they work). You start using the production calculators and bothered the crap out of all the business owners/successful people you know just to make a go of it, however, with the low return on some products, it still won't work.
I agree that we should help people out with their health - first with food, secondly with knowledge, and then lastly...
With a punch in the head!
I believe that there should be a minimum health setting for at least 75% of the workers that you have so that you can at least break even while helping these....
DEADBEATS
Thank you for reading....

as sad as it is, this isn't a logical solution. if you don't have enough health to work and you don't have enough money for food, all you can do is wait to eDie. and then, after you come back to life, you only get 50 health, which is 25% short of what you're proposing. Unless you have a good solution to THIS endless cycle, than a minimum health requirement isn't going to happen.

Ya know, I can't figure out why people won't keep their health up. It makes no sense. You want money to buy stuff, WORK! No Health = no work. Simple.
It's hard on company owners too.
even a minimum health of 50 would be 5 times better than all these bums are working at. Try owning a company an losing tons of money to these bums who lose their health by uncontrollably fighting on the wrong sides of the battles anyway. For example the Japanese resistance?
@ Welsh - If you read the entire article, I said that 75% of the work force should be allowed to be set at a minimum. That would still leave 25% available for the help.
I have owned (and own) many companies. The fact that I have to fire more than 75% of my work force daily due to health (and non-communication on their part) is ridiculous.
Two things can happen:
1. I will have an endless supply of deadbeats for 25% of my company, but 75% will help offset their lack of production.
2. The people who are NOT deadbeats, will learn to work (and hopefully fight) correctly to keep their jobs.
@Jason, I hear what you're saying, but the prob is new people that do or don't use Meals on Wheels & Arm America, fight to much (because it's COOL), work at low health or don't work at all. Then they cry, "it's not fair, help me!", so you do and they go back and do the same stupid stuff again.
I've screwed up before and have had to ask for help. I recently had to borrow $$$ from my boss because I fought one too many times trying to complete a mission. He was happy to loan me the money (which I quickly repaid). Why? Because he knew me, simple as that. He knows I always work at 100% and sometimes even use extra boosters. He's a friend and I want to see him succeed. He wants to see me succeed.
To make it short (too late), if your friends know you're a good person, that does the right thing, people will naturally help you get on your feet. If you have no friends, you have a track record of doing stupid things and misuse the help you are given by strangers, you get what you deserve.
I feel your pain. 90% of the workers I hire try and get away with working at a wellness around 30. It's so hard to find quality, hard workers.
I think workers need to be paid based on their productivity. Hard workers would be rewarded, and deadbeats would get pocket change. If this was the case, lazy workers would at least have one reason to bring up their wellness.

@ csabo07 - I completley agree
if you use a minimum wage + donation system to pay your workers, they have to communicate with you and if they work in poor health, you lose less
Voted and subbed.
Very good article.
@ Max - Thank you bud.

Good article, v + s.
even with the sadly high rate of deadbeats, if they're new and decide to waste all their money fighting, than they don't have any friends who they can borrow money from. This means they they're stuck in an endless cycle of eDying if they can't even work.
i get your point, but you have to look at it from every angle to get the full story. I also get the noob's point and i have to agree with that more. If they keep dying, they quit and suddenly, erep's active player rate drops 90%. Admins dont want they and neither do i. I'm sorry, but i still stand against this.
@ Welsh (again) - If they continue to die with all the knowledge and help, they are going to die anyhow. Like all games, some people just suck at them (or think their way is the right way to play).
INVOLVEMENT is the key to keep any new citizens. I COMPLETELY (and always did) stand behind this.
Numbers for just having numbers is not good accounting.
UIP and I'm sure other parties, have adopted an educational/mentor approach. This is not new, but forgotten.
When I first started to play (not that long ago), I found the Wiki useless and little instructive help. I finally found some info from the Dept. of Edu. and helpful new friend (like Jason Welsh) and quit screwing up so bad.
@Jason, I don't wish to be disagreeable but, I have tried to help noobs with advice and food. A couple did good. I will only continue to help someone if they get better. Amazingly, it seems that when you donate enough food (to reach say 90% health) to the right person, they require no further help. Donate two or three days pay worth of food to the wrong person and you may as well invest on ERX. (Oh wait, I did invest on ERX. 😛😛)
@GlenMcBeckson That idea needs to be pushed more. I stopped running my company because i couldn't find anyone who could keep their wellness in check. Maybe make it an option, to pay workers in any style you want.
having low health doesn't stop someone from working. Even if they get hired they can just move to another job.
This low health problem started when Hospitals were deactivated.
The company manager should have the option to set a minimun health, anyone lower than that cant work at least until they raise their health to the required amount. Admin should make this happen to company managers
@Swiftstar If the admins would add that, I would totally buy some of their gold.
AND DON'T CALL ME GLENMCBECKSON! (ROAR)
Corporate endavors are akin to carriage races; Employees whom are loyal, dedicated patriots will always improve your team... relentless in their pursuit of victory. Further; the destination is fundamentally esoteric, it is each leg of the journey which requires meticulous planning.
imagine this. you have less than 50 health and can't even get a job anywhere. you have recently been informed that less health=less productivity, but youo don't have enough health to work or enough money to buy food. you are facing an endless ring of you dying over and over again. You already know you should try to have better health, but you CAN'T GET YOUR HEALTH ANY HIGHER. what do you do except find a new game?
if you can find a solution here that's better than asking for handouts, than tell me what it is and i'll gladly change my opinion on this topic.

I had to figure it out on my own for the most part. Help a noob, forward these links. If they can't advance in the game after that, God help 'em...
Thank you for the great info here Dill...
also - if I didn't give a shit, I wouldn't have put this info on my party's forum.(It was there before Dill's info here - for the record)
@ Welsh - as I said before, that is why we have programs in place. Learn the freakin' game, or get out. That is why there is so much info. I don't know about you, but I read the book if I don't know how to play a game.
And....I did say I would give 25% of my companys' salary options to the "slow people" of the game...
@ Joseph Dinero, Thanks.
@ All, sorry about the last link, didn't mean to be a shameless plug for UIP. Thought I had put the line, "...or any other parties forum.", after the UIP link. Guess I'm gettin' too damn old to play games which require you to 'do' not just 'think you did'. 😛😛
