Who pays taxes in Japan?

The short answer: almost nobody. This is the worst tax system, what I've ever seen (except the RL Hungarian tax system). That's why the treasury is empty.
1.) The VAT is zero for almost all products (except the hospitals, but who buys a hospital?). It would be useful if a very small amount flow into the treasury from every purchase. 1-2% VAT do not increase the prices, but it would mean revenue to the state.
2.) The income tax is 10% for almost all products ((except the hospitals, but...). What does it mean? First: everybody works for minimum wage. Secon😛
the company owners take out the profit via the monetary market, so they do not pay any tax.
I ask the next congress to consider this.

2) is only practiced by unpatriotic company owners who value money over country. Although there is no way to be sure, I like to think that most owners here are better. No one has ever offered to pay me minimum wage to save on taxes. I have never cheated on my company taxes using the money market either. However, it does mean that I am a lot more cautious about moving capital (since I would be taxed on all income collected.) This is good for me since it has decreased the temptation to start new companies without knowing whether they were viable, but it could conceivably hold the economy back by keeping capital out of the open market.
Personally, I would like to see financial reform, with actual budgets and accountability for government departments. That is far more important than tax reform in my opinion.

It's honestly silly to pay company income tax. Instituting VATs is also silly, likewise for import taxes. If you don't have enough government revenue, raise the income taxes. If you do have enough government revenue, then what's the problem?

If all the players would be like this.
One of the biggest reasons you're not getting as much tax revenue as before is because company owners are working for themselves.
No salary = no tax
A simple yet effective way to make sure you get money from all taxes is to:
a) make income tax that way cheating the system via MM becomes inefficient as it is better to press "collect"
b) raise VAT tax as atm this is the one tax that cannot be dodged ( easily )
Taxes are not the only steam of government income.

I was just pointing out an error in the article. Clearly 400g is not nothing. If it was nothing it would be at 0. This statement "but nothing happened" is also incorrect because on the forums there was a discussion from a week prior. The vote never officially took place because I was waiting for the new Congress to be voted in.
Next time if you have any concerns, I suggest you go on the forums or write a more in-depth article that illustrates a problem which amounts to a longer length than two paragraphs and is not a rehash of another article. You should have access to the forums now, so you should use that new-found privilege to the fullest extent.
Unfortunately I have no access to the forum. You might remember that many months ago I was banned. I prefer generally the public debate. In the press everybody can read and comment, not only people who use the forum.
Hi Rerieru! It's good to be back. This year has been a bit crazy so far timewise but I do still poke my head in when I can. 🙂
Koppanyi, in addition to the money in the national bank, there are roughly 20000 JPY in the official national treasury. That's close to 400 more gold at current rates. (The JPY is a bit all over the place this week though... It was .016 yesterday and now it's .019? Well, better for the national finances, definitely.)
Some form of budget would be nice.
Such a weak country without ressources is indeed attractive because there is no TAX.
Even if increasing tax is somehow a good idea, the deputees who'll vote for it will take all the responsibility for our population decreasing (again)...
since the new Updates, there is almost no Income of Income Taxes, because everyone is a Company Owner ...
