Voting Record 6/9 to 6/13

Day 572, 02:30 Published in USA USA by ligtreb

In my campaign, I promised to reveal my voting record in this newspaper. This is the third installation of that promise.

For those of you who like Google Docs, I have also made a http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=reg6Gte99NJX8OJIy1cy3cg>spreadsheet with this information.

RECENT PROPOSALS

June 13, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/8003>Alliance with North Korea
My Vote: YES
Current Status: 10 Yes, 1 No
Reason: North Korea is willing to pay for both sides of the alliance and this gives us an ally in a part of the world where we don't have many. They are also no longer at major risk of a Political Take Over.

June 13, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7997>Tax Change: Moving Tickets Raise Import Tax from 1% to 6%
My Vote: YES
Current Status: 11 Yes, 18 No
Reason: I thought this was a better compromise than raising the import tax to 30%. 1% was agreed to originally to try to promote free trade, but it hasn't worked yet.

June 13, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7992>Minimum Wage Raise to $6.66
My Vote: NO
Current Status: 1 Yes, 36 No
Reason: This was a lulz proposal, meaning it wasn't meant to be taken seriously or passed. It was proposed by a congressman to get an extra experience point. Also, the theory behind the minimum wage in eRep is different from real life, where people earn less because of socio-economic reasons. In this game, everyone has an equal opportunity to make money as their skill goes up.

June 13, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7989>Donate BRL to the Congressional Budget Office
My Vote: YES
Current Status: 36 Yes, 1 No
Reason: Foreign currency is useless in our treasury, might as well change it to gold.

June 13, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7978>Alliance with Canada
My Vote: YES
Current Status: 40 Yes, 0 No
Reason: Our neighbors to the north have been great allies and have a high-diamond region that we don't.

June 12, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7954>Tax Change: Moving Tickets Raise Import Tax from 1% to 30%
My Vote: YES
Result: 17 Yes, 27 No
Reason: The 1% was originally suggested as a way to improve free trade, but as long as our allies don't lower their import taxes, why should we? Free trade can't be one way.

June 12, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7944>Alliance with Norway
My Vote: YES
Result: 41 Yes, 0 No
Reason: Norway has been a reliable ally for us and this helps us strategically.

June 12, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7942>Alliance with Poland
My Vote: YES
Result: 35 Yes, 6 No
Reason: While I don't approve of Poland's actions in Germany, this alliance will only help us strategically.

June 12, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7940>Donate SEK to the CBO
My Vote: YES
Result: 41 Yes, 2 No
Reason: Foreign currency is useless in our treasury, might as well change it to gold.

June 12, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7939>Alliance with Sweden
My Vote: YES
Result: 38 Yes, 4 No
Reason: While I didn't approve of Sweden's actions in Germany, Sweden has had our back in the past, and this MPP can't hurt us.

June 12, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7930>Alliance with Singapore
My Vote: YES
Result: 36 Yes, 4 No
Reason: Singapore is friendly us (led by an American) and this could help us strategically.

June 11, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7886>Alliance with the United Kingdom
My Vote: YES
Result: 45 Yes, 0 No
Reason: The U.K. has been one of our stronger allies

June 11, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7882>Donate ESP to the CBO
My Vote: YES
Result: 44 Yes, 0 No
Reason: Foreign currency is useless in our treasury, might as well change it to gold.

June 10, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7828>Donate to the CBO
My Vote: YES
Result: 43 Yes, 0 No
Reason: Periodically, Congress issues USD to the Congressional Budget Office to sell for Gold. This helps stabilize our dollar and make up for lost dollars from dead citizens.

June 9, http://www.erepublik.com/en/USA/law/7815>Alliance with Israel
My Vote: YES
Result: 40 Yes, 3 No
Reason: While Israel isn't as strong militarily, I'm generally in favor of MPPs with countries as long as they might help us strategically, they're not a threat to our allies and not at major risk for a PTO -- Israel fits these categories.
