Time to be honest, Mr Crumpet.
Ranger Bob
I can't hold off any further.
I would like to think of myself as a reasonably balanced, restrained person. Those who know me, REALLY know me...I don't begrudge any of your views. I enjoy this game because of what it is.
I enjoy this because when I am about, I just want to help our nation.
My methods on that are open to discussion, but I am straight with you.
I say this at the outset, as, regardless of what comes next. My only interest is in eAus. Not in making a role. Not in earning a medal.
Many of you won't know me. But those who do, would I hope by now appreciate I really only care about eAus to the point of fault. Personal, political, whatever. You probably on occasion haven't agreed with me. That's ok.
I don't profess to be popular on here. Never have. In fact when people tell me I am, I get personally quite embarrassed.
That's enough about me. I need to move on to the point of this article.
And. It will probably earn me hell in one way or another.
So.
I need to write an article about the politicking of Mr Crumpets.
Why?
Because I suppose
A. I largely agree with the undying points from many of his articles.
BUT
B. I absolutely unashamedly can NOT stand, the way these are done.
If you guys want to vote for him as a future CP, this is fine, and your democratic choice. However...
I cannot see substance in his articles.
They follow a very formulaic response. Like a good polly, they include subtle attacks on counterparts. A very much I told you so attitude.
I cannot accept this is not part of a plan. And, I am happy to offer my opinion as to why.
1. I fail to see substantive policy.
Articles published are generally of a negative nature. They tend to more focus on poking holes, but offer no real long term solutions. Whereas I see articles from others, such as Tim or XG, and disagree with these, Crumpets' are all about popularity, and are opportunistic.
Look, again that is fine to win votes. But I cannot see how they will actually change the world or state of play of eAustralia.
Take the last election, or, the next one.
Be it a "fast" or other government, these things are obtaining a vote and they are not substantial in nature. In real life at the moment I am embroiled in these things. But they are NOT real. They don't define a leader. They most DEFINITELY, do not define a person.
To solve our problems we need to act - and words don't deliver.
During my last run as CP, I achieved some things! But much I did not. However people knew where I stood and I ensured I followed up on that. People I highly respect, like Lany disagreed. And this was fine too. But I didn't deviate or spin shit for you. I appreciate that in a leader. Even if you may not.
2. Devisive politics
This is a great strategy. And, can win you votes and support. But is it really what we need? Probably not, in my honest view. EAus for too long has spent time infighting opposed to thinking abut the bigger picture.
If as a nation we spent more time on working together to address our lot, I actually think we would achieve more. That is not just a player view. It is my HONEST view as a person.
3. Being a leader is NOT about being popular.
If you care about this country, it is not about running to be elected. Yeah, many of you will disagree from a political viewpoint. But, look at me. My runs have not been to try and win. In both cases I didn't care about winning, I cared about a run on ideas. Even wingfield cannot deny this.
To help this nation we need real people. Yeah some folk I could and could not work with. Binda, you drove me nuts on IRC the night you approached me about Larni, but I still stayed up, and still listened. You know the night, and you know what I am talking about.
The point is, we need to stop caring about stupid insubstantial thins. We need to fix this country and through it, move beyond politics. I don't think Crumpet can do that as I am more of the view it is politics that drives it. This is not based on your honest views. But the way you sell yourself, is WRONG.
Long story short, I have some terrible shit happening to me right now. I would love to be around more, but RL stuff has kind of changed my views on things.
If and a big IF, if you want to change the world and cycle Mr Crumpet, you need to rework your attitude. As a citizen, and an avid reader, you need to stop this crap and start reconnecting honestly with this nation.
Break down the shit.
Be honest in your tone.
Don't fight for points. Offer your vision.
eAus is waiting for someone real.
Ranger.
Comments
very well thought out
Actually no. Like most of what I write, i wrote it on the spot, spur of the moment and on how I feel with some logic applied.
That has always been how I roll.
Damn you, I wanted to write that 🙂
win my vote and respect
btw, did you miss t in the last word?
That has always been how I roll.
hehe
well... I sorta got a mention.
As usual RB, shooting straight to the point, its why we luv ya.
Voted for truth about the formulaic hollow articles.
Good article from a good honest decent man. I never said you didn't achieve some things during your last run! I did say it felt like a 3 ring circus at times with so much going on but in hindsight I now know I'd prefer that instead of the dry boredom we've had since then.
"3. Being a leader is NOT about being popular."
Cmon Ranger, you know better then that.
Taking popular positions to earn votes will get you elected. But as has been evidenced time and time and time and time again around here, that does NOT define a good leader. That is the differential I am outlining.
Ranger Bob, you say
" I largely agree with the undying points from many of his articles.
I absolutely unashamedly can NOT stand, the way these are done.
I cannot see substance in his articles."
There must be some substance there for you to see the points he is making.
Maybe he could state things differently - but maybe it is a personal thing just your opinion, he had a lot of support last time he ran & it was just rotten luck he missed out this time.
He is functioning as the opposition - so maybe he should be calling attention to the Governments failures, poking holes as you describe it - how about the holes are already there, he is calling attention to them.
And Ranger
"Break down the shit.
Be honest in your tone.
Don't fight for points. Offer your vision.
eAus is waiting for someone real."
All of these are "Motherhood statements & can be leveled to a greater or lesser extent at all recent Australian CPs
I feel you are being unfair to Mr Crumpets, putting the boot in/damning him with faint praise.
You have described him as a cheap populist with nothing to support his views.
I feel if you are going to apply that standard against him - in fairness you should apply the very same standard against other potential CPs, don't single him out
I appreciate your view, Louise. My point is he needs a different approach. And yes, others are guilty. But not always in a way that implies they are better. Just more right. That's my honest view.
You challenging for the Labor leadership? Crean wants you.
hahahaha
FWIW... My Response... http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/mr-crumpets-response-to-ranger-bob-2232021/1/20
Awesome, straight from the heart.
What bothers me is that most Aussies I have met seem very defeatist and negative about Australia and I want to remind you all that that is EXACTLY what our enemies want to happen to us, they want us to infight, they want us wiped for all time, I have read many of their newspapers and they love to laugh at us. I do know there are some real patriots here and some friends who don't like these facts at all. We need to all unite or we are just letting the bad guys win, a politicians job is to serve Australia.
We are not dead, we are alive and we will continue to be, we need to be proud, the name of Australia is immortal. We fight, we never surrender because we are A....... (you know the song).
Lets get sorted so we can go sort out those who have invaded us, every state is ours by right.
I look at the title of this article "Time to be honest, Mr Crumpet" and in my opinion, MrC is honest. Yes, he's often negative, and sees it as his duty to point out the flaws of our Govts. I respect his right to do that.
I don't think that MrC is doing worse than what a lot of others do. He does stir up passions, but so long as he's doing it in an honest way it's ok with me. I don't think he's intentionally misleading the public. He prints how he sees things. He's always done this so I don't think it's a recent ploy to win voters.
ah i guess you think its good to do i told you so articles and purposefully putting points into discussion not to improve things but to get a leg up in politics.
I haven't seen anything positive from you lately Tim.
i would say getting you removed as an admin in the forums would be very positive for the community since you personally are the reason a decent number of eAussies dont go on the forums
Populism... isn't that how Obama won? 😛
The article title Binda was not to imply he is dishonest in his views. As I have stated in this article and elsewhere, I do not think there is honesty in the approach which does oft appear opportunistic and sensationalist in form.
I actually think he could cut that out, and distil his points to more about the comments he makes on articles, opposed to the articles he makes. These tend to offer far more substance than what he writes with the pretty pictures.
As I said I don't disagree with a lot of those points. When he writes off the cuff, and comments on his stuff, it comes across a lot more honest than the spin articles he takes time to write.
Honestly guys, its my 2 cents on the matter.
