The Struggle

Day 2,246, 11:58 Published in Netherlands South Africa by Wilpanzer

War, for many of us, seems like a distant and unreal concept. It's merely a word seen in the media and entertainment. However, struggles exist in our virtual vicinity. Recently Youtube changed its copyright policies, destroying hundreds to thousands of Youtube content creators' careers. Most of us have also seen great injustice on eRepublik. The pay-to-win players create multiple accounts, harass other people and rob country coffers with no real consequence. If you've bought enough gold to become a silver member, chances are much lower to become permanently banned. At a certain level, one can only be temporarily banned.

It's a very real and emerging dilemma we, as the consumers and end-users, face. If discrimination and pay-to-win advantages aren't enough to put one off there's restrictions and limitations. In eRepublik specifically we've seen the economy screwed and deliberately broken so that the admins may assert more control. We've seen organizations taken away and the party voting system dreadfully streamlined. Outside eRep we've seen the release of a corrupted Xbox One, Premium-only servers in games like Crysis and the ridiculously high priced Call of Duty Ghosts(a really generic game) and Iphone games.

It would be easy to call for regulation, but when one considers that Youtube has become such an oppressive site under the influence of anti-piracy regulators, it becomes clear that we may not have any voice or representation. Sure we can back a counterpart of Youtube like Twitch, but some free services on YT are premium services in twitch.

Unfortunately, it's in our nature to become complacent with problems if lies are repeated to us for a pro-longed period. Only pockets of resistance pop up and even then, those who are complacent will look away rather than joining.

In this ever changing world, the question must be aske😛
"Will the many change it for the better, or will the few change it for the worse."

We are customers just as much as players in this game. We have the power to make the admins' careers as game developers miserable, but we continually allow them to make our experience horrible.

How long will we falter and struggle before we fight back?
