The Ranking That Matters (3332)

Day 3,332, 09:14 Published in Netherlands Poland by Gwom

Hello my fellow eDutchmen,

Some of you may remember those olden days, when a certain player shared his thoughts with us in articles like 'Mijmeringen van een strateeg'. He also made an article regularly about a certain ranking. I am of course talking about the Golden Bicycle awarde😛 Walhallah.

With his permission I continue the legacy of 'The Ranking That Matters'.
What is X/S?

"One of the most important lessons is that XP is sticky, dirty stuff. Actually, that is not true. Well, it is true because it can stop you from achieving your goals." - Walhallah

In almost every game XP is an indication of progress. It says how experienced a player is in playing the game. In eRepublik the function of XP is quite similar. But there is one big hook! The division system is based on XP, but your damage output is not.

Let's take a theoretical player 'Steven' in division 1. He has a damage output a bit below average, but has quite a lot XP. He will be promoted to division 2, whilst his damage output was still under average in the division 1. This means that in division 2 he will fall behind in comparison with his fellow division 2 fighters.

"Basically there is only ONE medal that is infinitely available, fun to get and profitable, and that is BH." - Walhallah

This has a few consequences:
- The chance to get a BH (Battle Hero) medal is almost zero. As all his fellow division 2 fighters do more damage than he does.
- The influence he has on the battle outcome is sufficiently less. As in division 1 his damage actually did matter, in division 2 it is outweighed by the others in such a amount, that his hits almost mean nothing.
- He needs to make more hits for the same amount of damage. This means more XP, and therefore he can end up in a vicious circle. More XP means a faster promotion to division 3, where his damage output is relatively even less.

As you can see our good friend Steven has a not so bright future ahead of him.

"In order to get attention for this i am presenting you with a regular Ranking, based on XP/S. Because this is a clear indicator of how succesful you are doing in your Div. The actual indicator should probably include rankpoints (or HitQ7) but X/S is a very good, easy to understand, measure." - Walhallah

But Steven can redeem himself from his XP lust. By training, training and even more training. This will increase his strength, and therefore his damage output. The result is that he has to do less hits for the same amount of damage, and earn less XP. His X/S ranking improves, and so does his prospects of BH medals and actually being meaningful in battles.

The Ranking That Matters

"I want all of you not to make the mistake I made, and actually try to get up on that ladder Erep presents you. Instead, try to improve your ranking below!" - Walhallah

To give you a small interpretation what the numbers mean:

X/S X/S between 1 and 3 = acceptible
X/S between 3 and 6 = mediocre
X/S > 6 = worrying

For more information about X/S read this article

The ranking of division 4 is of course not really useful, as gaining more XP doesn't have any negative consequence (no promotion possible). But you never know if the game will change in the future...

"Added to that, there are 2 things you should keep in mind in order to benefit from this ranking:
1) top prio, enjoy the game. Dont ruin your game by sticking to wallies rules.
2) Train harder, rather than fighting less, in order to improve on the ranking and make wallie happy"
- Walhallah

So training will save your (and Stevens) ranking! But be sure to train in the optimal way:

In this scheme, the increase in strength is given above. The cells below show the cost of training. Because everything has a price...

Training optimal is really bad for your finances. If you don't have a training contract, it is advisable to train only in training ground 1 and 2. This will make a nice little profit of 0.45 gold a day. But if you want to increase your strength at the cost of some gold, it is advisable to but the 90% training contract and train in all of your training grounds. This will cost you 0.22 gold a day, but will make you a great warrior!
Conclusion
As it can be seen in the figure, there is some improvement to be made by some players. But always remember: don't let X/S ruin your fun! Of course you want to go berserk some times on the battlefield without worrying about all the XP you gain, and please do!

If there is enough demand for it, I will make these schemes more often. Most of the credits go to Walhallah of course!

Sincerely yours,
