Shaping Ireland's Future

[Introduction]
On Day 1840 the Irish government held a what was called a “Referendum on Membership of EDEN Alliance”, voting was to last twenty four hours and votes were cast by message to a trusted eIrish citizen, John Gormley. The article which opened the ballots stated that a simple majority of 50%+1 was needed to pass the referendum. The referendum results were released after twenty four hours by President Winston Hope Smith. The option of LEAVE won with an overwhelming result of 65%. Along with releasing the results, President WHS stated “It is now for the next CP react as he feels is best”. This effectively gives the incoming President the option to ignore the results of the referendum.

[Faults]
I personally have many issues with how this “referendum” was run. This referendum should have been held at the beginning of President WHS’s term and he should have acted on his results, not leave them for an incoming President to decide the fate of what President WHS has prepared him for. The voting period should have been open for forty eight hours instead of the twenty four hours we were given, I also think two days notice of the referendum should have been given instead of the twelve hours (I think) that we received. An EDEN representative should have been allowed publish an article within Ireland on EDEN’s relationship with Ireland, of the past we have shared and of the future we can have. For any future government, I believe these steps are fair.

[My Background On The Matter]
Many people will be aware of where I stand on Ireland’s Foreign Policy. I have been an active supporter of Circle of Trust and have been an anti-EDEN activist for quite some time. From my views and my call for an Irish boycott of EDEN I have developed friendships with citizens from many CoT nations, many of who I am still in contact with today. It is safe to say that I wanted Ireland’s exit from EDEN, after the Bulgarian incident I felt Ireland was treated badly and was neglected by EDEN for our stance. EDEN’s refusal to allow The_Psych0 our appointed Minister of Defence into any EDEN channel in my opinion was a serious and dangerous move by EDEN which has resulted in an angry Irish population, one of which I am.

[Problems We Now Face]
Ireland is still a member of EDEN, we have an official government statement officializing the public’s opinion on our membership of the alliance, an opinion which is to LEAVE. This will definitely have made EDEN uncomfortable with Ireland and they most likely will begin to lose interest with us before we do with them. Another problem with our current membership of EDEN is that The_Psych0 is looking to most likely be our next President. If EDEN keep up their opinion of him, we will have a President who will not be allowed into EDEN summits, another insult to Ireland.

[Why We Should Stay In EDEN]
For well over a year now Ireland has been a loyal nation towards EDEN, our loyalty is something we pride ourselves in. Leaving EDEN will be unfaithful to our brothers, our allies who we have fought for, the allies who fought for us. Ireland faced the threat of a political take-over a good while ago and EDEN member states were asked to send us citizens to help in the anti-take-over, they came to assist us and their help was a success. EDEN nations have been generous to us as a nation and have paid for our mutual protection pacts with them due to our financial problems. Currently alliances are shifting and new ones are being formed, if we exit EDEN and join an alliance it may be unstable and collapse. This means we will have turned our backs on EDEN and now will be isolated. If we were to leave, we should wait and see how the global alliances shape out.

[Impact With Our Neighbours]
Ireland naturally has borders with Canada, United States of America and the United Kingdom. Currently the United Kingdom and the United States of America have allegiances with Circle of Trust. So if Ireland exits EDEN then our most likely destination will be Circle of Trust, that means two of our borders will be with friendly nations, our only option for war will be with Canada, a nation with whom we share a warm past and even this month engaged in a training war with. The opportunity of going through the United Kingdom to Europe will be a costly one as we will lose a lot of our mutual protection pacts upon our first attack on the United Kingdom. This means that we will be reaching Europe with a very weak pile of MPP’s and most likely will lose our first assault on the continent. However remaining in EDEN gives us both the United States of America and United Kingdom to attack. War with the USA is off the cards due to our long standing history of friendship with them. War with the United Kingdom is a possible however our relationship with them has improved greatly over the past few months.

[My Stance Now]
From looking into Ireland’s options and what they really mean to us I have reached the conclusion that Ireland is best off in EDEN. Yes we want change, we want war but who can we really engage in war with? Our only real options are Canada and the United Kingdom both of which have twice the amount of damage output as ourselves. Our relationship with Canada is better than with the United Kingdom.

[What We Should Do]
Ireland’s best option is to stick with her Brother’s in EDEN. We should call for a new EDEN HQ to be established, one in which all member states are happy with. We can not run from our problems, our alliance is not built upon the leadership of EDEN HQ but the Brotherhood member states share with each other. Only the other night Irish citizens fought for Albania, an EDEN member, we changed the battle around, we were a force on that battlefield, we showed Brotherhood.

Let’s address the problems we have with EDEN, lets consult our concerns with our Brothers and Ireland can be the loyal nation she is famous for, Ireland can be the nation that brought Brotherhood back into EDEN.
