On being Prime Minister...
Aussie Vegeta
Hi all...
I just finished reading Crowded House's article on what he thinks a Prime Minister should be...
In my responce there I have admited afew things that I have never made publically known.
I FAILED THE COUNTRY AS PRIME MINISTER...
I have admited this to select members of this country that I'm close to, but never publically. I hardly kept the country in as good a position as when I recieved it. I did nothing to help it move forward. Without some of the champions I had around at the time, we may not have even got South Australia back.
That term killed me.
Why am I coming out with this now?
Well I feel that the time has passed that I have realised my arrogance in running for that role. I have realised what I am good at in this game. I have realised that I am not a failure, but just that I failed in that role.
The main reason though... I have just read about someone who has very similar thoughts about being Prime Minister as what I thought when I was campaigning for that role.
You cannot just rely on your cabinet to run the country when you aren't around... I thought I could... It was horribly unfair to the 2-3 members of my team who's shoulders that responsibility fell on. Most of the rest did their best.
2ndly, I know that real life is more important... but if you don't have 5-10 (and yes I mean 10!!!) hours a day to put into it... don't bother... the number of times that I was yelled at by my family for not making family dinners and friends that called me a dog... and I still didn't do my best...
You plan to log on for an hour but that turns into 3-4 hours and you have only just started doing what you originally came on to do. You get citizens wanting to talk to you, all kinds of other requests.
I have massive respect for any citizen that can stand at the end of their term with their heads high that they have done their best, and that they are campaigning again to have another go...
Anyone thinking it's glorious to be in that job, it's not. Don't do it for the glory.
Good luck to all who run for that role.
Cheers, AV...

-pats AV on the shoulder- you were a great PM! (I presume, I actually wasn't around)
I missed it too AV, but I'm sure your being a bit harsh on yourself.
your right, you need to be committed to be a CP, I know what you are getting into.
Voted - its VERY big of you to admit this, AV.
Well done.
(p.s. srg91 will probably be happy to read this 😃)
Dont forget those early morning meetings with EDEN, 5am is fun.
Nicely said AV. Even I have to admit that its nothing like people think it is. If you think you know what the job entails, at least to be a competent PM, through it all out the window, its all BS, you have no idea until you have been there, so if you don't think you can handle that kind of job, be an Alex, stay the hell away from it 🙂
The job of Prime Minister isn't for everyone. It's big of you to admit that it wasn't for you.
I don't know if it wasn't for him, or if maybe he just wasn't ready for it binda. When AV ran against me for it, I seriously don't think I would have been ready for it if I had one, the last 2 times have been different though.
It is very big of you to admit your short comings AV. And this reinforces my lack of interest in personally holding the position.
Never the less I have every confidence that Crowded House is capable of rising to the challenge.
He seems to use his time very effectively to stay on top of his very active elife.
I enjoyed the article. The job of PM is all encompassing. If one is not prepared to give it 110% don't bother signing up.
Well said AV. On that topic I am sure Mack Craft remembers as well, and how much people say bad things about Cozza, Cozza was on at 3 or 4 am (AEST) when the Brazilian CP wasnt online to attack us to take initiative back.
And I say this with respect but if Crowdedhouse said he is not willing to do that, then we can be r*ped and pillaged by the Indos 😉
well said, AV. As a former CP myself I completely understand what you went through. Since then, I say that only lunatics want to be the PM.
You're a big man for admitting this AV. I admit that if I do get the job then I'll get things wrong, everyone does, but one thing I can guarantee is I'll put the hours in...
SC, 5 AM for you is 5 PM for me, the joys of being a RL UKer 😛
First - don't be so hard on yourself. As long as what you did, you did so in what you considered to be the best interest of the country, then you have nothing to be ashamed of!
@widdows9000 - I am glad to see that you are honest with yourself about your abilities - and I mean that sincerely. No one is perfect, but realizing that difficult for some. You will have challenges if elected, but as long as you always try to put the country first - before everything else - then I am 100% confident you will do a fine job.
nothing but respect from me for this, this goes to the cabinet of july 2009 🙂, that was probably the best team imo.
