My First Deer

Day 1,714, 10:01 Published in Switzerland Switzerland by Hunter4Life123

I have gotten very bored with my newspaper, so I decided to do this. It is a poem about my first deer. I changed my real name to "Hunter" (for Hunter4Life123), and put equal signs for my dad's name, but other than that it is vitually unchanged. So, here we go.

🙂

“A Morning’s Treasure”

The October morning’s air was still crisp and clear
And 10 year old Hunter sensed that deer must be near

Still before sunrise, with her gun she crept toward her stand
Her eyes scanning for deer the still darkened rich land

With her father whispering instructions along the way
Both knew this morning would likely be the big day

Off in the field, a herd of deer slowly crept,
Hoping that young Hunter that morning overslept

Slowly ascending her uncle’s deer stand with care
Praying the deer of their presence would be unaware

The sun’s first ray had not yet broke the morning dawn
When a doe led the herd closely followed by her fawn

Soon three, then five, then more than a few
A whole herd of grazing deer came into view

With her heart pounding deep in her chest
She slowly lifted her gun and came to a rest

She scanned for horns wanting to shoot a buck
But searching for a big trophy she had no luck

But one big doe stood out among the rest
All her target practice would soon be put to the test

Though the crisp air swirled making her fingers yet colder
She held on the trigger as the cross hairs went behind the deer’s shoulder

“Take your time and breathe easy” was the counsel of her guide
Watching his daughter, his heart in that moment filled with pride

The woods then echoed as the shot made its sound
And the biggest doe of them all fell to the ground

Then a scream of joy and a fist pumping the air like mad
It was quite a celebration and that was just Hunter’s dad!

More laughter and hugs and an unexpected tear
======'s daughter Hunter had taken her first deer

Then a smile spread across her young face
As running to the deer became a fun race

As they knelt together, their knees pressed in the sod
They humbly gave thanks for this gift from God

A moment in time with joy more than they could measure
A memory together for their lifetime’s each will surely treasure.
