Ligtreb for Illinois

Day 574, 00:30 Published in USA USA by ligtreb

I'm running for Congress in Illinois, and am asking for your support.

Illinois is a big state and deserves to be represented by a top-notch congressman. Iggy Incubus served Illinois admirably the last two months, but he is not running for re-election. I would be honored to be his replacement.

Who is Ligtreb, and why is he the best choice for Illinois?

Well, look at my quick bio:

Congressman
Welcoming Committee director (part of President Scrabman's cabinet)
Mentor in the Mentoring Program
Home Guard member
Active in the United States Workers' Party (USWP), the best party in the world
Former member of the Department of Education

Okay, the bio is nice, but what does Ligtreb stand for?

1. Making this country active and powerful
2. Helping our military
3. Trying to get Illinois a Q5 hospital
4. Strong allies with countries big and small
5. Transparency (as much as possible)

Making this country active and powerful

The biggest problem this country has is the lack of an active population. We have enough citizens to be a superpower, but not enough involved ones -- a huge percentage of our people are inactive or have quit the game entirely.

This is unacceptable.

Active people help us in wars.
Active people help our economy.
Active people help our government.
Active people help our society.

On the Welcoming Committee, I've gone out of my way http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/welcoming-committee-update-829908/1/20>to message and seek out new players, offering them help and advice, and have made hundreds of eRep friends this way. I support outreach programs like the Dept. of Education, M*A*S*H, Meals on Wheels, and the new http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/msl-article-writing-competition-829303/1/20>Article Writing competition.

If we all made an effort to reach out to newer and inactive people, our country will be better off for it.

Helping our military

Our military not only helps our defense, it helps our interests and our allies too. Just look at the most recent news, our http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/usa-military-like-chuck-norris-in-greece--830277/1/20>win in the resistance war in Central Greece. Why was this win so important? Not only is Greece an ally, but Central Greece is a high iron region, which is vital for producing weapons. We need access to all the high-iron regions we can get. Also, since we have a Mutual Protection Pact with Greece, if the region is attacked, we can help defend it from home, without having to leave the USA.

I put my money where my mouth is earlier, sending some of my own money and weapons to our military abroad in Central Greece. I've been a huge supporter for funding the military while in Congress, and we need to keep having budgets planned so we can fund them. Wars are expensive, that's why I don't want to lower our taxes. This isn't real life, where your tax dollars go to a lot of programs you don't use. The majority of our budget goes to our military, this is partially a war game after all.

Trying to get Illinois a Q5 hospital

Congress currently doesn't see the need for more Q5 (5-star) hospitals, as they're expensive and technically, not necessary since we already have two (Florida and New Jersey) and one in reserve.

However, that doesn't mean I can't try to get Illinois a Q5 hospital. It's a big enough state to deserve one. If elected, I will join forces with the http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/the-american-health-foundation-our-charter-826031/1/20>American Health Foundation to try to get Illinois a Q5 hospital.

I have a friendly working relationship with all three trustees, and would fundraise for Illinois, putting my own money into the project as well.

Strong allies with countries big and small

I have voted in favor of most alliance and peace proposals while in Congress, I think it would be good to have positive relations with any country that's not hostile to us or our allies (or at major risk of a Political Take Over). With ATLANTIS gone, I like we that haven't fully jumped into a new large alliance, we need to take our time with that.

Transparency (as much as possible)

I have regularly printed my voting record in Congress in this newspaper, and will continue to do so if elected. I have kept a http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=reg6Gte99NJX8OJIy1cy3cg>Google Doc with all my votes as well.

At the same time, I won't go overboard with the transparency and release our war plans.

Thank you for reading, and if you're in Illinois, please consider voting for me on June 25!
