Iain Keers for TUP Party President

Please vote up, for democracies sake.
Dear friends,
I have taken the decision to stand for Unity Party President. Some of you may have spoken to me before on the forums, all of you should have received at least one message from me in the last month. I fulfil a variety of roles in eRepublik. I am the Master of the Guild of Hard Workers. I run a small co-operative business: the Co-operative Gifting Company. I write the Economist newspaper which publishes once weekly. I am the Unity Party Whip. Most importantly, I represent the lovely citizens of Yorkshire and Humberside in our national Congress.
In the last few weeks I have organised and run the first Party Conference in the eUK. It was done mostly on the forums, and out of that, we now have a constitution. Soon, we will have a manifesto document which we can all stand on for the next election.
But enough about what I have done. Let's talk about what I want to do.
I want to make the Unity Party the number one party in the UK. I don't want it to be there because of membership numbers, I want it to be number one because it is a party of leaders. I want the Unity Party to be synonymous with strong, forward thinking policies in the same way that the UKRP is synonymous with the Presidency at the moment.
I want to stand two candidates for every region. We have the active people to contest every seat, we just need to make a concerted effort to get them standing. If elected I will start the selection process immediately, and once our regulars are signed up fill the gaps with the new talents we have acquired over the last month. Voting TUP should be a choice every citizen has.
I want to introduce discipline into our party. We have had some of the greatest talents in eRepublik under the TUP banner, but we need to work together as a party if we are to achieve our goals. The new parliamentary whip system will make sure that there is TUP discussion on every issue, and a TUP official line on every issue. This motion has already passed, and I mean to implement it.
I want to make foreign policy one of our parties biggest areas of competence. We have former Ministers of Foreign Affairs amongst us, and I want to utilise their talents. The Unity Party is renowned for its liberal attitude and willingness to talk to all countries. We can be the olive branch.
I want to implement our new constitution, and our manifesto. For those who haven't seen either, the Constitution can be found here, and the manifesto is on our private forums. We've done a lot of work making this work, and now we just have to put the plan in action.
So why vote for me, and not anyone else? Because I won't be a caretaker Party President. I will be a leader. I have a vision for the future of this party that drives me to stand. I want to place us at the very centre of UK politics. I have written “I” more in this one article than all my previous articles put together. This is because I'm not naturally the kind of person who thinks about themselves. It took a lot of consideration and deliberation to stand in this election. I might never have done it if it wasn't for Malta being quiet on the forums and my friends in the Unity Party encouraging me to put myself forward.
We can make this party great. But I'll need your help.
Please vote for Iain Keers for Party President.

Those of you who are thinking about joining a party, and are considering the Unity Party: do it. Our membership has soared recently, and it's only good times ahead. We need new active people if our audacious plans are to succeed. I hope to see you soon on the forums

Iain, You have my upmost support, you are hard working and influential and I do hope that you succeed!
Good luck Iain🙂
Good luck iain 😃
Again I point out that the Party Whip is illegal. Seeing as you have now announced it publicly, I don't feel the need to keep my mouth shut.
However, you are a strong candidate and I imagine you will take TUP up and out the rutt it has been stuck in. Good luck.
The party whip system we have is completely legal, trust me.
Party whip? i guess i havnt been paying attention. whats it do?
See the TUP private forums Ares.
Goodluck!
Good luck!
Nothing about the Party Whip is in anyway illegal Hazz, I can't see why you'd think there was.
Yeah yeah
Keers'09
Great manifesto! What's the party whip?
John, I assume you have read the Congressional Code of Conduct. ;o)
Yeah, but the party can't actually force you not to vote against it, we're just saying if you do we probably won't endorse you as a candidate next election. What legislation does that conflict with? If I had it my way there wouldn't be a three line party whip, but that was what was passed so I'll just work with it for now.
So saying you won't endorse anyone who does not vote the party line in Congress is not enforcing it? I guess it depends how much somoene wants another month in Congress. We have already proven that a party publically not endorsing someone has a serious effect on their number of votes. Sounds like a case of blackmail to me. And it IS in conflict with the Code of Conduct.
The Party has the right to endorse or not endorse it's candidates on whatever grounds it wishes. It's not in conflict with the CCoC at all because we don't have control over their actions in congress, we do have control over our election endorsements, which aren't and shouldn't be covered by the CCoC. The Unity Party Manifesto is created and decided by all members of the party in Conference, and could be a contributory if not significant factor in any votes received by our candidates. Why should we endorse someone as one of candidates if they're happy to run off our backs but then discard that which got them there?
Code of Conduct states clearly that your opnion must be your own.
Giving people an opinion, and then telling them if they don't vote that way, the party will have them removed from Congress, IMO is a breach of this.
I also hope it is clear in your Congress manifestos, that you will be voting how the party tells you to, and not how the constituents want you to. I do however fear you will loose a lot of seats by doing this. Only time will tell I suppose.
But this has made me very very glad I left the party when I did.
We're not removing them from congress, we're removing them from our endorsement list unless they can convince us we shouldn't. If you don't agree on the party platform, decided by the whole party including some of your voters, and something that you will probably be ELECTED ON seeing as there is a lovely little TUP logo next to the name on the ballot, then why are you seeking to be a TUP candidate in the first place?
And if you hadn't left the party then maybe this wouldn't have happened. As soon as Iain said something you didn't like and he wasn't immediately shouted down, instead of trying to fight for your ideals and convince people your route was the best one, you just ran off for another party. You broke my heart man.... 🙁
You and I both know, that The Unity Post refusing to endorse someone, is a nail in your political coffin. And you can work for a party without rubber stamping what your PP tells you to. Spending time with your constituents and working on what is best for them, is certainly not what I would consider slacking off.
Besides, I didn't "run off" because of this. I did fight my point, and plenty of people agreed with me, and if I recall Squiddy provided an alternative middle ground. But it seems as soon as myself and Squiddy left, everyone has just rolled over (or perhaps, left and joined my party).
Anyway, I left because there seemed to be very few people doing anything. I was working my ass off, and no one seemed interested in helping out. It's a little hard to shape a party that has absolutely no interest in being shaped. It's also a little difficult to promote a party that does nothing.
In short, I would rather be in a small party with no Congress seats, then sell my integrity, turn my back on my constituents, and stay with a party that I don't believe in.
I hope you won't hold this agianst me, you were my mate, I just could not stay with TUP any longer.
I just miss coming up with the silly slogans and debating the internal decoration of the clubhouse.
😮(
Well, there is a cure for that. 😮D
Phew now this is a ridiculous amount of inter-party flaming on my manifesto.
Look here, Hazz. We had a chat about this in private. I believe that if people can't stand up and say: "I believe that this party stands for X, that our ORDINARY MEMBERS have voted that X should be our NATIONAL manifesto, and I will back the party" then they shouldn't be standing on our ticket.
Yes, we care about regional politics. However, when I elect my congressman I want to know things like their opinion on ATLANTIS, or freedom of information, or whatever. I expect him to fulfil his regional duties as the minimum requirement.
However, if we're ever going to act like a party and not a school council we need unity as well. We need to stand up and say 'this is what the TUP stands for'. We need to say 'this is our members will'. If people vote for that, then they are voting for our party manifesto, not our ability to run competitions in the local forums.
Also, I like it how you've just insulted our entire membership, or given me a massive compliment, by suggesting that they're somehow capable of being 'rolled over' by me...
I have no issue with you wishing to stand as a party, this is why you write a party manifesto, and people will either join or not join. But enforcing a whip is breaking the law, and I am a law abiding citizen.
And no, that was not an insult to you. I am merely stating that I find it amusing that people who were against the whip, have now gone silent on the matter.
And no, this is not a flaming match. John is my mate, and we were having a debate about your policies. This is what good politicians do. Just because I disagree with you, does not make it a flame.
